How do I delete a Parent SKU without also permenatly deleting the Child Asins??

We're adding sizes to our child costume gloves. I went to add this as a new variation to the parent listing so we not only have color variations but also have sizes now.

I received the following error message.

img

So I went to go delete the Parent ASIN/SKU. I don't see a way to just delete the parent sku, which is what the error message said above. But when I click to delete the Parent listing, it has a warning note that deleting this will permanently delete the child variations.

img

What's not clear to me is what is meant by "deleting the child variations"??

Does this mean those child skus/asins are deleted permanently and I'll have to rebuild them.

Or does it just delete the Parent variation (and thus there are no child variations) and the go back to being individual ASIN listings?

Trying to make sure we do this right so it doesn't mess up the listings, rankings, reviews, etc...

Hi @Seller_QayX0lmmpH5kR

I strongly suggest handling this via an inventory file template. Here's why:

  • Using an inventory file, you can delete just the parent SKU by setting the 'add-delete' column accordingly. Once the parent is deleted, all children will become individual listings.
  • Then you can create a new parent and reassign the children through a separate inventory file upload.

This approach gives you more control and is safer than using the UI. You can find detailed information about SKU deletion in the "Inventory Loader SKU Deletion" section at https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G200332020.

Kind regards, Michael

After the original relationship is removed, you can re-assign the child ASIN to a new parent item by entering that parent item's SKU in the child item's parent-sku field."
