Help. Refunded customer for non delivery and then they find their package

A customer claimed they hadn't received their item even though courier tracking showed it as delivered. There was no photo. I got the lady to do the usual checks, e.g. places it could have been left in, checked with neighbours, checked that no one in her house received on her behalf. She confirmed this all back to me. I then refunded her and sent her a message confirming this, then, literally 3 minutes later, she said don't refund me, I found it by the front door. Bizarre. Is this a new scam??

I contacted Amazon to let them know this and asked how I could get payment for these items. They replied with an answer which shows they didn't read my query and they don't really care. They said I can't do a Safe T as I refunded the customer directly.

I messaged the customer who said they would send me money after their refund has been received, but now radio silence.

Is there anything I can do to get my money here or have I been duped as part of a new clever scam. I say this as this has just happened again, pretty much exactly the same scenario but on a different marketplace.

" Is this a new scam??"

No, it's as old as the hills ! - and customers are now much more savvy about how to get freebies. You could ask her to return it, and re-order the item - the problem with that is, she will probably be refunded at first scan, so will have 2 refunds !!!. The other possibility is for her to contact customer services, and ask them to recharge her card, BUT, and it is a bif BUT, CS usually do not actually do it, and just tell the customer to accept is as a 'goodwill gesture' !! - so you lose out whatever way. There is another possibility for her to pay, but open to possible abuse too - tell her to re-order, but do not send the item - but she could then claim another INR, and you lose again.

Could be a scam - could be genuine mistake - obviosuly hard to tell.

Your only options to get your money back would be...

- Customer places an order that you simply mark as shipped but don't ship it (though this is harder now due to VTR)

- You can ask the customer to request to amazon their card is recharged for this order. Though given you have radio silence this might not be an option. In addition, amazon customer support often just tell the customer not to worry - they don't need to do that

- Your only other route would be a legal route - though given you willingly refunded I don't think that would be an option

Send the customer a reminder / invoice to pay you directly in the post.

For future reference if it was literally 3 minutes you can normally cancel the refund.

You have a small window to cancel a refund in. I am not sure how long you get but I have successfully cancelled refunds after I have issued them.
