Insufficent Royal Mail Postage claims charged to customers £5 when postage bought from Amazon

I have been buying postage direct via amazon for a while now as per their guidelines for account health, this was a pain as I pay for a franking machine. I post large letters with Royal Mail, after the recent postage rise I noticed I was only being charged £2.30 for a large 1st class letter under 100g. This was cheaper then the general rate of £2.50, I assumed at last amazon had struck a deal with Royal Mail just like my franking machine rates.

Over the last week I have had 5 customers contact me stating they had been charged an additional £5 as there was insufficient postage paid by me. I asked for photos and each clearly has a postage sticker on it, it's large and covers the whole box so it cannot be missed, then on top a yellow sticker claiming I hadn't paid the postage?

I rang Royal Mail and they don't want to know and passed me back to Amazon who are looking into it, although I don't think they know either.

However today I was printing postage labels, nothing I have done has changed and I have seen I am now being charged £2.50??!!! What is going on, are other businesses having this problem? Have amazon got the postage rates wrong? I am so worried I post tens of hundreds of small letters and if they all come back with a fee I don't know how I will pay for it....

Any help, feedback would be great, also be good to know if you have been charged £2.30 and now £2.50.

Nia

There was a longer thread stating the same thing.

I imagine best case scenario is amazon might apologise for the inconvenience (though they have never acknowledged the issue yet).

They certainly won't dip into their own pockets to pay for any refunds you'll have provide.

Not had anyone come to me about being charged £5 which would of happened by now considering prices went up six weeks ago.

The list price though is £2.60 for 1st LL, not £2.50 which they have upped to today.

I have now had 6 customers contact me and provided photos to prove they have been overcharged. I have chased amazon again, it is so strange the prices for postage changed from last night for 2.30-2.50.

Yes baked bean store the list price is £2.60 so i'm still not paying the right price and will potentially have more complaints!!

Are amazon charging other people £2.30 and now £2.50?

Are you sure that the surcharge wasn't for putting LL labels on 'small packet' (SP) sized parcels ?

I've been reliably informed that the £5 surcharge is standard for undeclaring the size - anything that won't comfortably fit through a 25mm slot, in other words.

Is that a possibility?

Thats not good. The hassle involved. I hope you're going to try and get those negatives removed. Of course being FBM going to be a challenge. Good luck
