Adding messages for courier

Yesterday I had an order at 14:50 and I bought RM label for it via Amazon Buy Shipping at 16:00 and it was collected by RM at 17:00. Now as I bought label from Amazon - as far as they are concerned it was sent at 16:00.

At 17:15 customer messages me to say could I tell courier to leave item behind bins if no one was in.

At 17:30 I receive message from Amazon customer services saying they ‘had been contacted by mutual customer’ etc and could I tell courier to leave item behind bins if no one was home.

I responded by saying the item had already been dispatched so no note to courier could be added but for future reference, as the item was sent by Royal Mail, they should contact Royal Mail to designate a Safe Place for deliveries as such delivery instructions on parcel would probably not be acted upon.

However, this does raise a number of points:

  1. How does everyone else treat such message from customers to courier? Write it separately on parcel? Ignore?
  2. If left behind bins as instructed and then it goes missing who is to blame? (I am guessing the poor seller)
  3. Why on earth did the customer wait until 17:15 to send message? They had upgraded to 1 Day delivery so surely common sense would say they were too late to add delivery instructions
  4. When customer contacted Amazon why did they not just tell customer it was too late to add courier instructions as they would be able to see from Order page it had already been dispatched

The customer can contact RM themselves and nominate a safe place.

But there really isn’t much in the way of choice in telling RM a safe place etc.
There just isn’t really an option to do so.

We use Veeqo, so I can edit it in under the recipient name.

In theory, it should be the buyer, since they chose the delivery preference, but on Amazon it will certainly be the seller.

The cynic says they’re preparing an atoz claim, since now they have a message history, they won’t even have to contact you to have one granted.

Probably they thought it wouldn’t be sent until tomorrow, or that the info could be edited after the fact.

I think we all know the answer to this one…
