Amazon sucks ... eBay rules!
eBay rules!
List what you want!
Sell whatever you like!
Nobody cares about tracking!
You are treated as a person!
Unfair feedback is removed!
No nonsensical white backgrounds!
No barcodes!
Be happy!
Or sell on Amazon and live in fear each day.
Hopefully this will earn me a ban from the forums… I need a break!

I have had more issues with Ebay customers claiming non receipt and getting refunds for late deliveries in the last 2 months than I have in a very long time on Amazon, have to say I’m pretty disappointed in it at the moment, moved some over there after everyone said it was better/more understanding but I’m really not convinced.
I’ve got 3 RM claims going through at the min, tracking shows delivered, buyer got their money back and insists they havent received the items

Its all about the fear.
The fear and stress has at some points completely taken over my life.
And I’m a tiny seller.
It’s incredible that one single man has forced a culture of fear top down, into the vast majority of employees, and sellers.
There are historical precedents.

Whilst I prefer ebay
No , they still have a list of prohibited items
See above
You have to provide tracking if you want to win an inr case
No - another seller on there recently couldn’t get a feedback removed that stated the a4 diary they sold was too big - the customer wanted a smaller one - even though it said a4 in the title
Actually you are supposed to use barcodes its just they have the option to put doesn’t apply without you having to apply for an exemption
Like most on here we sell on both. We sell for a higher price on ebay but, sell twice as much on amazon
In an ideal world I wouldn’t sell on either - but then I’d have to get a ‘real’ job and moan about my boss

Of course different people will have a different experience on eBay vs Amazon, some prefer the other etc.
Our experience is that I agree with the OP.
And it’s not even about being “easier” for us, it’s about making sense. There are now SO MANY metrics on Amazon that I actually believe if you have an inventory in the 1000’s or more, it’s impossible to not fall foul to many of them.
And not through doing anything wrong, for example:
- Price alerts - Now official violations
- Product image alerts - now gets your product suppressed/inactive
- Suspected ip/trademark violations - “Suspected” yet they switch your products off with ZERO evidence any wrong doing, usually because you’ve actually done nothing wrong.
But the biggest one really is that Amazon don’t leave ANY room for you to make a simple mistake, everything is treated as though you’re trying to deceive them in some way.
The list is endless.

Oh and I’ve just had a negative feedback on ebay as the item arrived one day late - they’ve refused to remove it

Both have their positives and negatives to sell on, but simply put when it comes down to stress and actually enjoying selling on the platform, I know which I prefer!
I’ve sold on eBay for 20+ years and in that time I’ve witnessed a lot of changes, some good, some bad, but overall it’s not really affected the way I operate my business on a day-to-day basis. A few changes had to be made along the way, but they were fairly straightforward to implement.
I’ve been selling here on Amazon, coming up to 6 years now, when I first joined, I was like wow this is soo much different and better in comparison to eBay, I liked the professionalism about it, the help and assistance you could get from Seller Support actually meant something. I liked the tighter rules on joining, i.e you had to be registered as a sole trader and or limited company etc, It just felt better than eBay overall, sadly now it just doesn’t feel that way.
The living in fear of something triggering a negative on your metrics is a big thing here, you find yourself checking them several times a day and this VTR metric is just going to add to that fear. On eBay, I rarely check anything on my account, bar an occasional glance at my feedback.
On eBay, receive a negative feedback or two, whether warranted or not your account is fine, on Amazon it could cost you everything!
My biggest hang up with Amazon is the Seller to Buyer messaging system… It’s just not fit for purpose! I sell a lot of products that need customising by the customer and the amount of issues I had with trying to contact them was a real nightmare, fortunately when ‘Hand Made’ came along this was a game changer, with being able to add all the options for customising to the listing, without the need of contacting the buyer.
The messaging system also seriously impacts upon your business operations when dealing with orders not being received by a customer, you get a message of item not received and then most of the time they don’t respond because our e-mails either end up landing in the spam folder or the buyer just doesn’t know where to access the messages. I really question at times where the [IMPORTANT] in the e-mail title really does anything at all.

However, VTR might be my new biggest gripe with Amazon, oh well that will make a change from moaning about the messaging system!

Amazon is much better than ebay, rules are rules. ebay is unpredictable for sales.

The grass isn’t always greener
I’m a seller on eBay
A buyer messaged me last night at 9pm as he “still” hadn’t received the item, which was posted RM48 on Tuesday.
As I hadn’t replied by 10am this morning, he opened a dispute demanding a refund
(he was able to do this as eBay (wrongly) gave him an estimated date of arrival as Friday.
Buyer’s seem to struggle with the term “estimate”

I’m with the OP as well.
It took me a verrrry long time to warm to ebay but I now sell more than ten times as much on ebay as i do here - on a third of the stock. There’s also an upward trend to prices, whereas Amazon prices have been drifting down since Marketplace began.
For a few years now, there’s also been an error rate of about 3% on my Amazon listings. Consistently. Listings that were correct at the time of listing. Paperbacks becoming hardbacks, publishers and publication dates changing, titles changing. Last week, I listed over 400 books but only 77 on Amazon, most of them using the ISBN - and five of them were wrong when I checked. Wrong binding, wrong publisher etc.
Amazon used to pay very well. Then it paid enough to pay the bills. Now it pays enough for coffee and cakes. Given the continuous hassle, after nineteen years from Zshops to Marketplace, there’s little more than habit keeping me here.
Everywhere else - better than ever.
