Buying from Ali baba
What are the rules regarding buying from Ali baba and selling on Amazon.
On the one hand I hear and know people who do this. On the other hand I read on these seller forums that amazon don’t allow it and all baba isn’t considered a wholesale.

Essentially it boils down to as long as Amazon never ask for invoices you’ll be fine, if they ask you’re in trouble.

Right thanks I get that but say for example I seeing my own product with a Ali baba seller. I tweak a few.things on one thier product. So I can’t possibly be infringing on anyone’s IP.
Would that still be against amazon policy?

As you are looking at importing goods from outside of the EU you will need to make sure that the products you import meet all the safety standards and have certificates to prove this on hand should any market surveillance authority request this or deem your products unsafe.

There are many wholesalers selling on Amazon.co.uk you only have to look at bulk quantities. For example you can buy toothbrushes in packs of 12 or 24. You can buy toilet rolls packs of 100.

Do you mean you are looking to buy from Alibaba and have the stock delivered to you and then sell it ? If yes, there should be no problem, but of course you must follow all Amazon guidelines to be able to sell on here.
If you mean ‘dropshipping’ then simply drop the idea. Highly NOT recommended.

- Alibaba is not a wholeseller, its a marketplace just like Amazon.
- Seller on Alibaba are either manufacturers or Wholesellers.
- When you select a particular bottle design from alibaba seller, first check is this design is already IP protected in your chosen Amazon market. If design is already protected than you need to get permission from design owner to sell that particular design on Amazon.
- Most of the times Alibaba seller is self owner of the IP rights of that design, in this case you can buy from that particular seller over his invoice and its better to get permission in writing from that seller to allow you to sell on Amazon.
- You also need to check brand name is protected or not. If brand name registered and you sell without permission from brand owner, their is a confirmed risk that your listings be removed or due to IP infringement all your funds might be forfeit.
So, it is advisable to check all do & donts before listing any product.
Once again, alibaba is a “MARKET PLCAE” not Whole Sale.
- If you need to buy from Wholesale a certain BRAND, there is a separate procurement strategy for this business model.
