Help please shipping a book to France
Hello all.
I’m new to Amazon selling!
Firstly I thought I was only selling to the uk, is this possible?
I’ve sold a book to a customer in France, which will be at a loss. I’m going to honour the sale but am really struggling with the customs form and finding the correct 8 digit code.
Any help on how I can only sell to the uk and how I find the code? I’ve been on the HMRC site and it’s as clear as mud.
Thanks. Max.

Posting via Post Office? They can maybe advise?

There’s a link on this thread that might be worth trying. However, the CN22 form only asks for the HS code if known so you might get away with it
As to your other problem, you probably signed up unwittingly to all EU marketplaces as it’s the pre-ticked default option. Go to your seller account pages and put all the other countries on holiday setting, so your books won’t appear there

Thank you for the replies, I’m actually finding the HMRC site a nightmare, and I’m not normally stupid
I’ve managed to put all of Europe except the uk on “holiday”.
Postal prices to the rest of Europe are mad at the moment.
Regrettably I think it’s going to be easier to cancel the order, it only being my 3rd sale I really didn’t want to.

Yes this is my worry!
I’m struggling to find a courier that doesn’t demand the code. I’m already well out of pocket (£6 book, at least £14 shipping).
I’m going to try and persevere today

I’ve managed to book shipping through parcel hero (DPD) , using the 4901…code and entering my tax code (national insurance number, hello big brother)
Now dpd are telling me they can’t generate the shipping slip. It’s totally going to be one of THOSE transactions isn’t it
I’ll let you know!

Thanks again all, I’m not sure what on earth I did wrong in that case!
I just went to RM online and that’s the price it gave me.
I’ll go back and check now…

Just been in and looked again. For some reason, obviously my stupidity!!! It seems my quote was parcel force global!
I feel a bit daft now.
Huge thanks everyone x

Don’t know if it helps, but I very occasionally sell items to France Italy and Spain. On the CN22 I tick the Gift box at the top flill out the description weight and Value sign and date it . I don’t put anything in the Commercial items only box and never had a problem. I would post at a loss having learnt a lesson.

Finding commodity Codes is easy.
I call it harmonised Tariff code (HS code). Go to
put in “book” and it tells you the code is
49010000
(Im not sure how many zeros on the end - I sell music things around the world, not books. Other countries do something equally good - e.g. search google for “harmonised tariff code USA” and its obvious. The HS codes are seemingly identical worldwide)
