Hows the DVD market these days?
Approximately 12 months ago I took the decision to stop sending anymore stock to FBA, sell off all the stock they held and get out of the DVD game. It took me another 3-4 months to clear out the remaining stock on ebay, and try and get some money back on all the stock amazon had randomly prevented me from selling. At my busiest I would have had about 10,000 units with amazon.
I had to write off about the last 400 dvds as they were not selling and it wasnt worth the time and effort to have them returned to me.
Im curious as to how things are for the media sellers now, did it get any better? Or worse?
Have amazon changed the approach at all and started to actually support sellers?
Is A Lo - Pez still scamming away?
Ive got no intentions of returning, but after 20 years in the business its hard to no longer take an interest

Seller support has gotten worse and continues to nose dive.
As for DVD category, I’m afraid I can’t help there.
The “Seller Support” traps have become tighter and you spend more and more time going round in circles until (as is their intention) you give up and cut your losses.
If you got out due to scammy customers and bad support from Amazon, don’t come back as its only gotten worse.
Your chosen category might be having batter luck, making it worth it, but that’s my 2 penneth of the seller support side of things.

Hi
I sell mainly in the DVD/CD area and got permission to sell “used” DVDs without having to send in receipts (which you can’t do with used DVDs). Only blocked on a few of the newer titles like GOT etc
I see about 1/2 FBA. Any DVD or CD worth less then £5.99 I do not bother with as not worth it with all the costs.
I have an inventory of about 2,500 and can sell 10-20 a day try and get 100 new stock to FBA every 2/3 weeks.
Going is OK, tend to get higher prices then on eBay, yes A Lo - Pez is still about but has gone a bit quiet seen him on eBay a lot more!
I think the main trouble is getting stock in!

Hi
I got the same email about sending in receipts etc and to be fair had almost completely given up and in the process of moving my stock on to eBay I thought I would just ask permission just to sell used DVDs. I set out the letter explaining where the items come from, what checks I do etc. Out of the blue i then got a response back saying I could list just used DVDs (a few unpopular ones I can sell as new).
I was shocked and pleased as I said before the prices you get on Amazon are higher then ebay.

Tricky, unless you have a rare one or some in cellophane. I did shift a few Dickens stories on DVD a while back before they requirements changed.

I think Amazon have squeezed too hard…I was a uk distributor of specialised films and then along came Amazon and allowed parallel imports of dvds - it was ok for a time because they at least ordered and paid for stock of our new titles THEN they got bigger and decided to no longer BUY stock from us but allowed us to sell on consignment - namely we stocked them dvds and they sold them and paid 60 days after sales! THEN they started to make it more authoritarian and dictatorial about it’s consignment arrivals into their warehouses as well as some pretty expensive return costs for unsold dvds. All the time selling with impunity parallel imports from USA (from which they also derived a nice % sales fee)!!
Then we stopped consignment and set up a marketplace…which came at a cost to be able to do so…the most irritating of which was paying P&P that was more than the costs they charged customers…so taking a hit on every sale! Then they said you had to provide invoices for stock…but here’s the thing I find this on the one hand reasonable to safeguard copyright BUT again parallel sales persist BUT on the other hand I have a problem with them knowing how much I paid for my stock.
They are too large and too monopolistic and they know it…having made billions from fees and turning a blind eye to parallel imports…I am letting my marketplace account die …fulfilling the infrequent sale but running out stock and doing other things with my life…like buying on the high street and from independents.

everything is getting saturated these days especially since millions and millions of products say Sold & Dispatched by Amazon
I’ve noticed there are a lot of listings where amazon are the only seller, and do not allow other sellers to undercut, I’ve never actually sold in the DVD market but I would imagine the profit margin is very low at least for DVD singles, maybe the box-set market is the best margin to go for?
