Re-verification nightmare after 13 years
I think this may well be the end of me selling on Amazon after 13 years. I have received a reverification email and am going round in circles both with Amazon and HMRC. I am at my wits end and in tears.
I uploaded a letter of authorisation but it was rejected as “invalid” despite it being word for word the same as previous ones sent years ago and in Amazon’s help page example.
Amazon then said they want original documents from HMRC but I went paperless several years ago and get everything by email from HMRC. Amazon have rejected a PDF copy of HMRC’s email telling me to complete a self assessment tax return.
I was hanging on the phone to HMRC for over 2 hours yesterday trying to talk to an adviser to get paper documents, but the phone cut off without anyone answering. Same again today but cut off after 1 hour.
Emails to the Amazon MD and the HMRC CEO it will have to be. Unless anyone has any bright ideas?

Phone hmrc again and get them to send you a ‘UTR confirmation letter’ and amazon should accept that
They are open 8am to 6pm so try now whilst most people are commuting
Just checking too that in identity info it says sole proprietor and your own name not store name ?

We have an accountant I keep losing these confirmation letters and our accountant just orders it on our behalf from HMRC to post it again. Have you tried getting an accountant to act on your behalf, yes you will have to pay the accountant.

I really feel for you. I am dreading the next re-verification.
If I remember I had a similar problem a few years back with getting paperwork from HMRC.
We registered with HMRC Gateway. Once you get registered you can log in to your HMRC account and download/print paperwork. UTR, VAT certificates, Self assessment paperwork etc.
Maybe worth a look. Really hope you get it sorted.

Really sorry to hear you are going through this and I really do emphasize!
I had a similar experience phoning HMRC twice during a day and both times the call cut off at exactly 1h 15 mins! The following day I got through in less than 15 minutes, this was just after calling them at 8am.
The letter came through the post in about 8 days.
Fingers crossed for you, that you get this all sorted, it should be just what you need to pass re-verification.

The list includes “Online VAT Certificate” which you can get online.
If you log into your Business tax account and under VAT select “Manage your VAT account” you will see “View VAT certificate” at the bottom which will give you the option to print the certificate.
It shows the original date you registered and the date the certificate was issued.
Hope this helps.

Hi I just made my own post on this and in the same situation but with a added document and was forwarded here:
Been selling on here for over 10 years, I posted earlier about a email asking me to confirm I am not, nor have I ever been, a politically exposed person. Which I have now done.
I’ve now been sent another email saying We are contacting you as the document you provided was unacceptable for review, due to the reasons listed below. (I didn’t upload anything as they didn’t ask me to?) And that they now want me to reupload my UTR number which I did a few years ago. Fine except everything is paperless now and I guess I’ll be spending Monday on the phone asking for a copy to be sent out.
More worrying to me is when click the link to upload the document there is nowhere to do so and instead it’s asking for me to upload “a Power of Attorney letter (should be on a business letter head containing business name and Point of Contact name as provided while registering).” I’m confused as I’m an individual seller or sole trader and when I click on the link to show me an example it doesn’t show? Can anyone explain what a power of attorney letter is? Do I have to get this from somewhere as I have no idea and was never asked for this before?

In this day and age (and I accept most SS staff are probably overseas) you would think they could all* come up with a better way of verification. Everything is going digital. Actually, reading that back, everything IS digital really, now. Call centres are being decimated. More and more are moving to ‘bot chats’ and so on. Getting hold of the right piece of paper, which ironically you probably take a digital photograph of, can be almost impossible in some cases now. There has to be a better way.
•all because it’s not just Amazon
