Stopping stolen goods/unauthorised sellers

Hi,

We’ve got a variety of products online that we know are stolen from a well known retail chain, I realise it’s a big accusation etc etc, however we have proof.

Unfortunately the police and Amazon don’t seem to be doing anything currently, and I wanted to know if anybody had experience dealing with stolen goods on Amazon and how to report them as the registered brand.

I’m an Employee of the manufacturer/distributor, so it’s not like I’m trying to get rid of the competition etc, we sell B2B & B2C, and we know they’re getting their goods stolen to be sold.

Any one have an ideas or advice to have them removed/suspended?

Thanks.

Jacob

I would start by making a test purchase of the suspected stolen goods and confirm your suspicions.

Are you able to confirm the items are stolen through serial numbers, security markings etc.?

Basically, you have no evidence of any theft happening. You cannot simply accuse someone of a serious crime because they aren’t authorised resellers or you don’t know where they obtained their goods for sale. They could have bought them on eBay or elsewhere and aren’t required to share their source with you.

There would have to be proof of them actually stealing the merchandise from the retail store.

You say you know the goods are stolen but you have absolutely no proof that they are

Then you go on to say that the Poloce say there is enough to investigate… why aren’t they doing that? My guess would be because they know there isn’t enough evidence for a prosecution and that might just well apply to Amazon as well if you report them

Unless you have definite proof, ie witness to say they saw xxx stealing these goods then imo it’s best to keep quite. It’s a serious allegation you are making

Hi All,

Thanks everybody for your help - I understand everyone’s comments, as I said, I am/was going off limited information supplied to me by our legal team.

We were looking for a quick solution for reporting unauthorised or stolen goods sales, clearly there isn’t one, so we’ll have to let them continue selling through them means.

I appreciate all your help and we’ll now consider this matter closed as we’re going to leave it to the legal team.

Kind Regards,
Jacob

An ASIN example would provide far more detail to the situation.

You might like to email the sellers with the following and then you can work from there:

Hi

COMPANY NAME here. I wanted to ask where you bought your copies of our games as we have never sold to a company of your name. We are worried your items may be counterfeit and we need to trace the copies.

Could you please advise?

Thanks

COMPANY NAME

I received this email, I wasn’t offended and was able to provide proof to the manufacturers satisfaction, the message was sent through the Amazon email system.

I had my own stock stolen and sold on Ebay last year.

Amazon/Ebay/Paypal takes weeks to respond to police as it goes from dept to dept.

Police informed me that a relative of the seller was ‘known’ to the police but there was nothing to link them to crime.

Police interviewed the seller but told me in advance there was little/no chance of any recovery because the only thing they can potentially get them for is ‘handling’ and that if they lawyer up (which they did) they would not incriminate themselves.

They simply stated they bought items at a market stall and had no knowledge items were stolen.

I’m focused on the Question - what can be done via Amazon?

Why is the OP not more forthcoming re the Test Purchase? Were they genuine? Do the Barcodes marry up? Should they be selling them as “New” ?

Not knowing what product , but if several people are selling them too cheaply , and the packaging is wrong … that would make me think they might be counterfeit / fake products

There are all kinds of legal ways sellers obtain products to re-sell .wholesalers , distributors , liquidated stock etc . It is wrong to accuse another seller of being a thief without proper evidence just because they have found a way of competing with you . If you think stock is being stolen from your stores/warehouse , surely it would be far better to concentrate on who is stealing it and how they are doing it . Cut off the source and find the real thieves rather than focus on the sellers. Also take into account , sellers may buy products not knowing they are stolen .

If several sellers are selling stock stolen from your company , you must have terrible security , start there. Look at your own company and see what they are doing wrong before accusing others
