UPS, is it heading the way of Citilink? (And a Warning)

We use UPS infequently for larger ltems and tend to flip between DPD and UPS dependent on price. We’re recently sent one order via UPS with no issue, delivey on schedule. Didn’t think anything more about it or the impact of Covid on their service.

We then used Packlink provided over on the other place for a private sale - not a huge value item but over 5kg. UPS didn’t attempt delivery, didn’t leave a card but dumped the parcel at the nearest location locker - it’s now being RTS as uncollected. So far so normalish, if annoying.

We tried to contact UPS - which is practically impossible - the website presents you with a please log in loop, but doesn’t actually enable any stated function to be carried out. We’re used to that it’s been like it for 6 months.
We tried calling them - hahahahaha - hours could be wasted doing this, they don’t pick-up, we had the phone put down on us after 40minutes.
So this led to a Google search and, errm, discovering their Trustpilot rating, which is as low as it can possibly be really. We left a neg review and received a response asking us to email directly - duly done only to receive a reply that basically restated what the tracking said. So really unhelpful.
The return hasn’t turned up when scheduled, and the tracking has stopped being updated so I’m guessing they’ve lost it.

What might be of concern to sellers here, apart from the shocking service, is that lots of the reviews state given what a run-around UPS have given customers waiting for scheduled deliveries, those customers will actively avoid purchasing from suppliers who use this carrier. So a warning on to fronts really, UPS may lose you business and they may eat up your time trying to chase failed deliveries for angry customers.

Well, the only response I can give to that, is that I wouldn’t use UPS if you paid me to.
One of those bad reviews is from me!

They have a terrible service and I think the only reason that Amazon have them as a preferred, is that they have a big connection in the states.
There are considerably better couriers out there. I’d highly recommend DPD myself.
Very few issues with them over the years.

DPD local and some others have very simlar most poor review seem to be during the virus outbreak and as we all know we had issues me personally I used to only ever use RM and UPS I have not used RM for 3-4 weeks as they are still having issues instead using Hermes and UPS still and I have never had any issues with UPS to be honest

if you book directly with UPS, then hassel UPS for update but as you used Packlink, then you really should hassle Packlink. There is a safe place/collection drop option when you book, so if that was not selected, then that should not happen; hassle whoever you book the shipment with about it. UPS will not entertain you if you do not book direct with them as you are not the customer; in legal point of view.

We not really had much issue with UPS as we book direct and gets quite friendly with local depot, so normally any issue at the journey start, we get it sorted at local level.

I have never had issues with UPS until the last two weeks when they are constantly missing my Amazon collections, my pick up location is a Storage facility but they manage to drop me off boxes there but I have been rebooking for 3-4 days in a row before they’ll take a collection

Have to say, I’ve used UPS a whole lot and very rarely have I had an issue. They’ve only ever missed 1 collection which was booked at 4PM, so that is understandable to me. The delivery drivers are always really friendly and get paid well, which is why they seem to be the best compared to other companies.

UPS phone number 03457877877 - 20min hold time on average during covid-19 reduced staff.

We’ve only have one issue with UPS when they had to use agency staff to collect 28 parcels from our address; the agency worker came in a crappy little van that wouldn’t fit them all in and because they had parcels in there already, we couldn’t even get one in. 3 days of being messed around and the manager got in touch and promised a saturday collection which happened no bother.

I think UPS are great, personally  Definitely more reliable than Hermes. DPD are great too but their prices are stupid.

I’m quite shocked at this thread. I use UPS all the time (via Parcel2go) and find they are one of the best!

The only issue I have ever had was last week when they stopped taking orders because of capacity issues. I’d sent a package the day before and it got delayed for a couple of days.

I switched to DHL last week (while UPS weren’t taking orders), They didn’t turn up for collections TWICE in 3 days!

I switched back to UPS on Thursday and the packages arrived next day!
