Variant on 'empty box' scam?

received an email from buyer yesterday ‘no cd in case’ That’s it.

CD was in the case as I packed it myself after checking for any marks etc.
Packed it in an A5 jiffy, sealed that, then packed that in a larger jiffy, and sealed that with parcel tape. Then I applied the label (Click and Drop, Large letter) Total weight 140 grams. Sent on 21 March.

I have asked the buyer to tell me if the package has been tampered with and I described how the package was checked before packing, then sealed etc, but am not expecting a response and the terse original message seems suspicious to me.

Has anyone else had a similar claim made? This was sent to an address in TF3.

I await the inevitable A-Z…sigh…

Mentioned countless times on this forum, either refund or await the A-Z which you will lose.

How do you manage to get a cd in a jiffy, inside another jiffy through the 2.5cm gap?

In bricks & mortar stores you get shop lifters, and you have to accept it as part of the business and calculate it in to your running costs. Unfortunately they also exist online, and this is a fine example of it, and it is something we all have to put up with. Don’t take it personally and think of it as part of your expenses. Sadly we have to brunt the cost of these dodgy people.

Ah, the old ‘empty box’ scam. Yes, I’ve done exactly the same as you - inform them that you packed it yourself and would be happy to report it to Action Fraud on their behalf. That’s the last I’ve heard.

Hi xxxxx
I’m really sorry to hear this, you don’t need to worry as you are fully protected by our delivery guarantee, we use cctv to record all orders as they’re packed and can verify that the package was posted with the CD inside. If you can send me a photo of the packaging we can forward this with the cctv images to the police for investigation as it has obviously been stolen in the post which is a serious crime.
I look forward to your reply.

Hi Tony
Yes i have one in Switzerland last month total of product plus postage £89 A -z claim Germany de said she received an empty packet . Why would you pay for customs and sign for an empty packet… I asked uk to help as germany would not reply and gave buyer a full refund. Amazon uk said they will help thats 2 months ago and not a word. Again another happened to me £95 cream and £4 postage paid claimed she received an empty packet. Uk said they cant help as i posted royal mail signed for and did not buy through amazon shipping. I have had a total of 8 items returned in the last 2 weeks and been with amazon for three years over the last three years i have had 6 returns excluding the returns x 8 in last 2 weeks. Something is not right and i am sure these are competitors and amazon told me they will see if there is a link Still not come back to me

Total weight 140 grams.
Have you tried weighing the two jiffy bags and a blank cd case to see what weight is displayed?

The buyer can ask all they like, because they are not allowed to view it. Unless they are officially part of the investigation and have a section 29 form.

heres an idea which i myself have done before
when u pack cds/dvd’s etc, take some pictures of them as evidence the disc inside the cases.the cd going into the jiffy bag.then take a picture of the jiffy bag itself showing the senders name at the front
as ive done that before as when i posted a item i had sold on amazon
ive never had any amazon A-Z guarantee claims ever come back to me at all,as i use size c jiffy bags for regular cds,and use size d jiffy bags for posting dvd wich come in regular size dvd cases
with other types like dvd box sets,i would source packaging like boxes etc from my local stores/shops,as i can get them before they recycle them
i allways keep my proof of postage recipts all the time, plus i also used some selotape as to sucure the jiffy bags.
ive never know anybody to tamper with anything wich are posted/send out to them
as i post those orders out myself via my local post office,as they weigh those parcells etc on the scales,so that way id know how much the postage costs will be,as i use 2nd class post all the time unless otherwise,as buyers can soemtimes ask for signed for/special delivery,as that does cost a bit more, but its what the buyers ask for if they wont them for special occasions eg birthdays etc.

Was this order sent tracked?

If not, you will unfortunately lose any potential “Items not received” A-Z claim.

In case that the buyer opens an “Items not as described” claim, all you need to do is respond by insisting that the CD was present in the package and the buyer can return it for a refund. This will cause the claim to get funded by Amazon.
