Blocking Buyer Messages whilst on Holiday

I noticed that Holiday settings do not allow you to stop receiving messages from buyers whilst you are away. Are there any other Amazon settings that temporarily close your account and block buyers from sending messages?

Nope, not for buyer messages - and you would still be expected to respond to them within the time frame - so it does leave you open to getting A-Z claims....

I set an out of office message on my email account and it counts as a reply (didn't used to though)

You can't and ignoring messages until you get back from Holiday will likely result in negative feedback and A-Z Claims.

What I do when I am on holiday is allocate half an hour per morning to check my messages and respond to them. Has always worked okay for me and is not really too time consuming or interrupt things too much.

It's really frustrating. You basically cannot have a proper holiday if you sell on Amazon. I'm having to respond to customers on a family holiday which is far from satisfactory.

Not that I don't wish to do the same, but we sellers do have a duty of care to our customers and that too expected in line with amazon policies. So no way you could block them. One way or the other, you are obliged to respond to buyers within 24 hours of hearing from them.

I have bookmarked messaging system on my phone homescreen and prepared to respond within seconds of picking it up.

why you would want to ignore buyer messages to me is very odd. Especially if it’s a complaint or query on an existing order for example not been delivered. You would only end up with bad feedback and A to Z claims and it’s bad customer service in my view. Admittedly your on holiday but I just set aside a bit of time to answer these messages for our lovely customers :)

Hi @Seller_fw9LFwa3Z2sVB

Connor from Amazon here, thank you for reaching out to us.

Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't provide a way to completely block buyer messages while you're on vacation, as they require sellers to maintain customer service availability even during holiday periods.

However, you can manage messages by setting up an auto-response through Seller Central (Settings > Notification Preferences) that informs buyers of your absence, expected return date, and response timeframe.

While you'll still need to check messages periodically or have someone monitor them to maintain Amazon's 24-hour response requirement, using vacation mode together with auto-responses is the best way to manage customer communications during your absence.

I hope this helps,

Best regards,

Connor
