Royal Mail Redirection Scam in progress
I believe I am in the middle of a scam which is in progress.
Customer placed order, I sent order to the address by Special Delivery. A couple of days later I had the customer message me to say he hadnt received the order. I rang Royal Mail and they said there was a redirection on the address and the item has been sent to the redirection address and is currently in the depot as no one was there to receive the item at the redirection address.
I messaged the customer to say there was a redirection on the mail.
Customer messaged back to say that the new address was on the order and the item has been sent to his old address. At the same time they opened up a returns as item has not delivered.
I asked him why did he redirect the post from his NEW address (the address on the order) to his OLD address, and he keeps saying the same thing: the new addresss was on the order.
Amazon SS will not help, its almost like Amazon SS never heard of redirection. Royal Mail wont help, they say as the sender I need to wait 18 days before the item is sent back to me, otherwise its sitting there waiting for someone to collect the item.
So far I have not refunded the customer and have not replied to his last message.
I am considering reporting this to the police and letting the customer know this, although I think this "customer" can be just anyone. Amazon has said I can raise a SAFE-T if the customer does pick up the item If I refund him.
Before I do anything I wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience and any other advice is much appreciated.
Many thanks.

one thing I can advise is DO NOT do as seller support have said below
Amazon has said I can raise a SAFE-T if the customer does pick up the item If I refund him.
If you refund yourself you’ll cease being able to open or win any safe t claims.

It may not be a scam. It could be a genuine mistake by the customer.
All you need to do for now is tell the customer that it has been redirected and is available for collection.
It is not really a police matter, it would be an overreaction to contact them. What are they going to do really?
However if it goes to an A-Z you won't be protected by Amazon on this and you will probably be liable for a refund and will get an ODR.
Assuming he doesn't collect the item it will be returned to you.

"At the same time they opened up a returns "
How can they possibly return the item if not delivered !!!!!!!

Accept the return request and then wait for them to return it.

Firstly, as has been said do NOT take notice of SS, as if you refund, that is it, no Safe-T claim can be done.
Is this SFP, or a standard order?
If SFP, let Amazon CS action, and a Safe-T claim if needed.
Also, accept the return request, do not ignore that.
I would screenshot the order, download the invoice and delivery note and reply with those as proof to the Buyer, that in error they have sent to the other address.
The Buyer can contact RM if they paid for redirection, to go to the new address and re-arrange delivery. Provide them with the RM details as an attachment, not in an email.
Good luck, update us all as it is nice to know outcomes

Just make a Police complaint and teach this bastard a lesson.

Yes this is a known scam where the customer enters an incorrect address in the first place - normally a mixture of thier old and new addresses. They still get the item via redirection but the tracking doesnt update. check the original address and call them out on it,.

It is a shame this has happened now.
As of July this year, Royal Mail are introducing a Stop & Return service for T24 T48 and SD, where you can request an item is intercepted and returned to sender's address.
Will be useful going forward when it is implemented.
Maybe you can try to get it returned by calling RM business services (if you are an account holder) and asking them to get it returned sooner so you can then refund customer before an A-Z opened.

Ive had exactly the same happen to me and Amazon refunded it even though it was his mistake - let the Managing Director at Amazon know the more people who hound the Managing director the more they will get annoyed and actually get seller support staff that have brains.
Just out of interest what was the first 3 digits of the postcode to see if it is the same person ??
Thanks

Hello this happened to me also but it was from a customer who had ordered many items before and not had a problem. But I did suspect this was what happed. The customer opened up an A to Z on the Friday after 8PM, I saw it on Monday and it had been granted. No time to respond as we only work 9 till 5 Monday to Friday. I told him that the parcel was delivered to an address near to his and a name. He told me a day later that did receive his parcel. I told amazon, but still no refund to me just the case transferred and some one will contact you and they don't. The customer withdrew the A to Z which was good. But I am still waiting for a refund from amazon 3 months later.
