to me

Hello,

We have discovered an issue with your Amazon account that needs to be addressed immediately.

Why did this happen?
We arrived at this decision because we were unable to verify the information you provided for your seller account.

It is urgent that you follow the steps on this email:

  1. Please update/edit the phone number listed under Merchant Default Contact section at this link:
  2. As confirmation, reply to this notice and include:
the last 4 digits of your current Phone Number.
  3. Wait until you receive the temporary link to confirm the update and to obtain the approval to continue using our services.

If we do not receive your confirmation email, you may no longer sell on Amazon’s European Marketplaces and all remaining funds will be held for 90 days from the date your selling privileges were removed.

To talk to someone about this email, you can ask our Seller Support team to contact you

Thank you for your compliance with our verification process.

Sincerely,
Amazon Seller Performance

So, I’ve just been taken in by the best phishing email I’ve ever received. None of the usual grammatical etc errors and the language is pure Amazon-speak. And even the seller support agent agrees that the email address looks genuine. So, a warning for you all and some advice for me please. I clicked on a link in this email and provided a telephone number. I then received, instantaneously, a text message with a code to enter via email. Having sent this I then received a further email with a link to confirm the update. Fortunately my computer warned me about this new link and, finally, the penny dropped. So the only information I have supplied so far is my telephone number and, I guess, I have also confirmed my email address to them by replying. I have changed my password as advised by SS. I have run a deep scan of my computer and nothing has turned up. Should I be doing anything else? Practically speaking I can’t really change my email address but I could get a new telephone number without that causing too much inconvenience. Thanks in advance…

Thanks for the warning - agree this looks very real. I never click any links in emails from Amazon (or allegedly from them) for this very reason!

I think I would have been wary from the start - don’t think I have ever known a genuine Amazon email use ‘Hello’ as the greeting, and if there is no red flag alert on seller homepage then I would know for sure and I would NEVER ever click on a link in an email if they ask for verification of ANY info, even if it is just last four digits or whatever.
Hope this doesn’t have any repercussions for you.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. It does look a bit scary and real in the beginning but if you are looking closely to other emails Amazon is sending out the wording is a bit sketchy. All emails coming from Amz start with “Dear Seller” or “Dear X brand name” so that is a first eye-opener. Also, I never received an email with the domain @amazonservices.co.uk. Most often is either @amazon.com or @amazon.co.uk. Hope your account is secured now after making all those changes.

I assume you removed whatever URL it was they were trying to get you to visit.?

Without posting a live link on the forum, can you give us an idea of what the dodgy URL looks like?
Have you checked it on a whois website like ICANN or Nominet?

The domain amazonservices.co.uk is registered with Nominet to Amazon Europe S.A.R.L so the domain is owned by Amazon. It’s possible the email address has been spoofed and I would be wary of clicking on any link.

It is scary what dangerous a world we live in.

What I have started doing a while ago is that whenever a request to do anything by Amazon arrives, I look for that notification in my Seller Account where all genuine messages should be.
