We bought a company with a deactivated seller account

Hi all!

We bought a brand a few years back (2020) which had previously sold products on Amazon. The account was deactivated in 2017. However, now that I have tried to relist some of the products via our new Seller account, it is saying the products are owned by the other account.

I tried many years to login to see if I can delete the listings to delist as new products but was only able to a few months ago and it has been circles ever since.

I cannot reactivate the account to view anything despite my best efforts. It is saying something about being associated with another seller account. At the time when this old seller account was deactivated (2017), our new account wasn’t made yet until 2021 so it can’t have been ours it’s associated with. I said I don’t recognize the other account. I do not have the original deactivate email and there are no performance notifications in the account to tell me anything useful. My appeal was rejected.

There are SKUs in that old account that we own and we can’t successfully list and edit the listings on our own account because it needs authorization from the old seller account to change information on the SKUs. It also has an incorrect brand page up which was set up by one of their employees who even spelled the brand name wrong. I tried to access the inventory list and brand registry but nothing shows there. Both are empty.

How can I get this old account reinstated so that I can delete everything from within the account?

I think if you create a case and explain exactly how the things were processed and that YOU bought this brand and that indeed YOU are now the brand owner (of course Amazon will ask you to proove that) and that you ask to remove the old brand owner and put YOU as brand owner in Brand Registry.... That is the only way.

There is no chance at all that this old account could be ativated. You weren't the owner and you don't know with what account it was related. So in fact, another related account (you don't know) would need to be fixed, and then the old account of the previous brand owner. This would mean an archeological study without good outcome.

That wouldn't help in any way. Each ASIN stays in Amazon's database forever, deleting doesn't change that.

As this issue involves a different account, are you able to provide me a case ID for the affected account? I will need this information to partner with the appropriate team.

You have the right idea but you're using the wrong process. When you bought the brand, you didn't buy the seller account as those are tied to the previous owner forever. If their account is suspended, *they* would have to follow the procedure for "un-suspending" it. Suspension or not - this account is bad news - I would not try to restore it. Your best option is to move forward on your own account.

All is not lost. You can still sell the brand's items. It sounds like the previous business owner started a Brand Registry setup on Amazon. As Brigitte stated,

This isn't going to be easy - but it can be done, assuming you have all the relevant paperwork for the sale of the business and brand. Before beginning, make sure that GS1 has been updated with the new business information for all UPC codes (if applicable), and that the USPTO database has been updated to you as well for the brand trademark.

If those are correctly reflecting you as the brand owner, proceed to open a case with Amazon Brand Registry for assistance with registering (or putting you in charge of) your acquired brand. Provide them with proof of sale of the brand and all it's associated goods and rights. Also be prepared to show ownership of the UPC codes and proof of USPTO brand registration that has been transferred to you.

it might take a couple of tries with this info but if you re-open the case a few times you'll likely get someone who can help. Just make sure your ducks are all in a row before you begin, otherwise you'll be wasting both your own and Amazon's time, as well as creating an unnecessary link to the old, suspended, business that might cause your own to be blocked by association.

Fingers crossed for you!
