Why does Amazon auto-authorize a return past their 30 day return policy???
This order was well past Amazon's 30-day return policy but Amazon still Auto-authorized the return, WHY??

The Return status even states Out of policy but Auto-authorized
Yes, this was delivered on time, actually early -- Delivered Saturday, 3/15/25
The customer should NOT have had an option to submit a return request this far past the 30-day return policy ... and IF they did, it should NOT have been Auto-authorized. We should have been able to close the request as being out of policy.
So now what? If the customer returns it, do we have to issue a refund? Can we close it now as out of policy?

what is the return reason stated? Did the buyer contact you at any time?

I don't understand what the rules are anymore. Can customers just return anything anytime and we have to refund them? Is this also the case with when I buy stuff on Amazon? I can just use it and return it and get my money back? I understand returns within 30 days, but what about 50? 100? 200? 500?

I had two of these get returned to me in one day this week. Both were $160 dresses, purchased approx. 60 days ago and were auto-refunded by Amazon. I filed Safe-T claims for both, with reason being 'refunded outside of return window'. Can't wait to see what happens, lol. It's bad enough that we have to deal with the frustration of Amazon allowing the customers to return damaged and late, we then get the second kick when we have to take the time to file Safe-T claims, where they either get denied or get awarded some nominal arbitrary amount that has never been explained.
None of the customers care about the stated return policy. The seasoned ones know that they can do whatever they want to the merchandise and return it whenever they feel like it.

Same thing here, item was sent back 79 days after return requested. I think as long as the customer lies about the return reason, they get the automatic refund regardless of the timeframe. This particular crazy customer returned that book with their reason "the box was too large" ???? All this return fraud is going to be the ruin of this business model.

We have had many of these, as far as 180 days after delivery. Amazon's sandbox, do as I say not what I do unfortunately.
If the item makes it back and it is used or damaged, you can very well take a restocking fee per Amazon policy however they can still file an A-Z claim and you will need to fight it to avoid negative defects on your account. If it hasn't been tampered with or used than just fully refund then relist and take the small loss on the shipping charges. Still bites but than fighting with A-Z claim idiots and risk damaging your account health.

Close it out now as out of policy. You are not obligated to issue a refund and you should request reimbursement of amazon issued return label.

Amazon has a Strick policy for sellers, but customers get a free ride all the time. Thanks, amazon, for being our selling partner.

As far as I can tell, you are new to Amazon. This happens all the time.
You can issue the customer a full refund or you can charge the customer an up to 50% restocking fee. Of course, be prepared to get a negative feedback, az claim or chargeback, or all of them.
az claim shall be fine after 105 days and normally the customer will not win; but you may fail when the cx files a chargeback claim.
