Product Policy Compliance process hinders successful launch
I want to share my pain and maybe suggest a solution.
I've been selling on Amazon for a couple of years successfully. I launched 44 of my own products so far. In August 2024, I had another launch, which was very successful for me; this product was going to be one of my bestsellers and second in its category, maybe even win a bestseller badge.
Today I received a performance notification that this listing is at risk of deactivation:
Basically, it stated that my product is a dietary supplement, and as such, it needs to go through the Product Policy Compliance procedure for dietary supplements. Nothing hurtful so far, I've had my products to go through the process before. Some just after the listing creation, some long after the sales start. It usually goes down smoothly. If the listing is not active yet and I have no stock at FBA, I request the quote with the lab through Amazon, send the samples to the lab, and the lab sends the test results and the certificate to Amazon. If the listing is live and selling, Amazon gives me a month to conduct the testing with one of it's accredited labs and it is usually enough to get it done. Nothing complicated, no rocket science here.
But this time it gets weird: after I got the performance notification, the listing got deactivated right away. No amount of phone calls to the Account health team and Selling support team can move this from the same point: the product compliance team will only reinstate the listing after they get the certification from the accredited lab, which needs to be sent to Amazon by the lab itself.
Why not have the documentation ready to be sent when requested by Amazon, you ask? Good idea! You can only get it from the lab AFTER you get the product policy compliance request from Amazon, not before.
Here is the main flaw of this procedure: you cannot make a dietary supplement compliant before you get the Product Policy Compliance request from Amazon. But when you do, Amazon deactivates the listing. You cannot reinstate it until the accredited lab sends the certification to Amazon, which takes around a month (e.g. Eurofins turnaround time is 3-4 weeks from sample receipt). This means you sit there with no sales, several thousands of units in FBA, waiting for the testing to be completed.
I understand that the product policy compliance team does its job. They need to protect the customers from dangerous and harmful products. And I'm not saying they shouldn't do that. I suggest allowing sellers to work on product compliance with the labs BEFORE Amazon deactivates the product, not after. Otherwise, I don't know how I will launch my next products, knowing it can get deactivated in a flash.
I have my case ID 16721907801 for Amazon support, where I request you to give me a due date in 4 weeks to get the testing done with Eurofins according to the Product Policy Compliance process and not ruin my launch.
