Charged In An Attempt To Settle Account Balance

Just made a new amazon account without any listings or anything. Account gets deactivatied a few minutes later saying they want authentication though any bills on your address. Half an hour later got charged £30 for no reason. This is what the email said: “We have charged your (Visa) credit card for 30.00 in an attempt to settle your account balance. Please note that the amount charged to your credit card may be less than the total amount you owe due to a credit limit imposed by your bank. In this case, we may continue to attempt charging your card until the remaining balance in your Amazon Selling on Amazon payment account is paid in full.”

The £30 is not for no reason, its the £30 charge for the professional selling plan that you would have agreed to on signup.

You can downgrade to the Individual Selling Plan via 'Account Info' on which you are instead charged a fee per item you sell

You can then request a refund of any charges taken place, though this is at Amazons discretion.

As above, but sadly the sign-up page does not make it clear that there is another option. Below is what you will have seen with a big orange button on the Sign up, and that is what EVERYONE will click on, so the £30 is the £25 +VAT - exactly as it says. I daren't think how many new sellers think this is the fee for opening a seller account, which it is not, it is the simply one of the two selling plans. To downgrade go to Settings (cog wheel top right) - Account info - Your services - Manage.
