Problem with Manufacturer/Amazon barcodes

Hello. I have an issue with the barcodes. In advance there was a preference of using manufacturer barcodes. After making new listings and converting them back to FBA, they were automatically applied to manufacturer barcodes. I need them to be with Amazon barcodes, but there’s no such an option. It says - This product is not eligible for tracking with an Amazon barcode for one of the following reasons: This SKU is already assigned a barcode preference.

I’ve changed a preference of barcodes from Manufacturer to Amazon, and the most of the products have changed to Amazon barcodes, but the ones that were out of stock at this time weren’t fixed.

I know about relisting the product and changing the SKU through ‘add another condition’ option, but this will reset the rank of the product, so this is not a right solution for me.

Anyone has similar issues? I’ve written about it to technical support and this was an answer:

Please understand that the listings can only be changed to Amazon Barcode if it is relisted with a new SKU. As you have already created an FBA listing, please have that listing deleted and follow the below mentioned help page for creating a new listing with another SKU as mentioned in it.

Maybe there is another way? Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, there is no other way. Amazon's system is set up so that once you assign a tracking method to your SKU (Amazon label or UPC) it stays that way. Changing a tracking method would cause all sorts of issues in their warehouse/in their computer systems and that will create an even bigger issue for you.

The reason for this is comingled vs. non-comingled inventory. UPC tracking uses comingled inventory (Amazon throws your items in the bucket with other sellers who sell the same item. There is no way to tell who owns each specific item). Amazon Labels result in non-comingled inventory (what's in the bucket is what YOU sent in, not others).

Amazon doesn't have a system in place to switch from one method to the other, so the only way to switch them is to create a new SKU. (If you ever get the chance to do a tour of an Amazon warehouse, take the opportunity! It's amazing what you'll learn about their processes).

Curious about your "reset the rank" comment. What "rank" are you referring to? Search rank is based on the ASIN level, not the SKU level. If that is your concern then you'll be just fine. Creating a new SKU will affect some aspects of your account (ads, for example) but not search rank. We have many items that require frequent SKU changes and we have not run into an issue with it.

Hi @Seller_3GUSsZCcopplR,

Thank you for reaching out with this question! I apologize for my delay in chiming in, but I'm so happy to see that you have already received some great advice and insights in the replies.

Now, I'm just coming across this post and wanted to check in, has there been any updates on your barcodes since posting this thread? If you are still running into this issue, please send me your case IDs and I'd be happy to take a further look to see if there are any other options here.

If you have any additional questions, please let me know!

All the best,
