New FBA Placement Fees

just sharing my recent experiences with the new FBA Placement fees for sending inventory to Amazon.

These placement fees have increased my shipping costs by 20-40%. And not only has the cost increased, but the inventory takes longer to arrive at fulfillment centers because I assume the placement center is now a middle facility.

Does anyone know if this is a case of paying more money to receive slower delivery service? I’m a bit frustrated that my inventory is out of stock while my shipment has been checked in, received, but has been sitting in “fulfillment center transfer” reserve for over a week now.

Are you shipping pallets or using your own freight services?

The placement fees are new, but in my experience the placement process has been here for a long time. I used to send to a single FC/trans faciity in New Jersey (ABE8) where the cartons were broken down and trans-shipped all over the country. About a year or 2 ago it expanded slightly to another center in NJ and one in PA.

I still send to those three locations esp if it's a single carton, but now they have me sending to centers in VA and SC if it's more than one. The placement times haven't changed AFAICT this year. The processing starts a day or two after the delivery arrives at the FC. I am using Amazon-purchased UPS shipping.
