SellerCentral account created without authorization

Hi there. I received 2 emails from Amazon regarding errors with my SellerCentral account. However, the surprise is that I never created an account. I have never even attempted to sell anything on Amazon.

I am security conscious and don't think my account was compromised. Were the emails an error? Was there a technical mistake that created my SellerCentral account? Is there something I need to be concerned about?

If I close this SellerCentral account, will it affect my normal Amazon consumer account?

I noticed that the SellerCentral account is in the US and CA. Do I need to close them separately?

Thank you to anyone who can help.

Are you sure it was actually an e-mail from Amazon? Spammers spoof email addresses with authentic looking emails jut to try to get you to click on a link to download spyware or viruses on your computer or hoping you will contact them at an e-mail or phone number they provided so they can get personal information from you. 9 out of 10 times if you get those e-mails it's phishing emails. If you don't have a seller account and you receive an email about your seller account you don't have, it's a scam.

Puzzling to be sure.

You cannot rely on Seller Support (the name is an oxymoron)

Perhaps a forum moderator can shed some light. Although Friday evening is a bad time to ask.

As you mentioned, the emails you received advise on errors with an account you never attempted to create. Since these can be rather sensitive subjects and should be treated with the up most caution, have you clicked on any linked or attempted to use information provided to contact someone? When the email was received, what was the domain (after the @ symbol). Have you attempted to report this to Amazon or open a case on the situation? If you have opened a case, please ensure you've provided the concerned emails on the case and share the case ID here. This will allow me to research the email you received closer.

I would also suggest reviewing my post on suspicious emails and protecting your account. This offers guidance on these specific situations and how to protect yourself and report any issues. I would be more than happy to continue offering guidance and support on your situation, but as mentioned I would need some additional details surrounding the emails you received.

The forums community and I are here to support you. Please let us know how we can help you from this point forward.
