VAT and company registration for non UK based seller

Hi,

I am planning to set up a seller account but having some difficult. there are a couple of options when initially creating the account. According to Amazon they are asking for which category I fall under. They provided the below::
– Individual: You must only choose this legal entity if you do not sell for profit. Individual sellers may list unwanted personal items, such as old DVDs or books.
– UK Sole Proprietor: This legal entity is for any commercial individual who sells for profit. A Sole Proprietorship is registered with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC). There is no legal distinction between the owner and the business.
– State-owned: A business that is either wholly or partially owned and operated by a government.
– Publicly-listed: A business with shares listed on a stock exchange for public trading.
– Privately-owned (such as Limited, Partnership, International Sole Proprietor): A business controlled and operated by private individuals.
– Charity: Incorporated or non-incorporated tax-exempt body.

Now my current condition is as follows

  • I am not based in UK but in another EU country
  • I do not have any UK VAT number or company registration number . I also do not have any VAT or company number in another country as I am just starting selling
  • Sell for profit and purchased from a retailer

Q1) Hence in this case what option should I select when creating the account ?
If I select UK Sole proprietor then amazon asks me for a company number which I don’t have so a bit confused what should be done.
If I select Individual they say its the incorrect account type based on my specific case.

Q2) Is it mandatory to get a company registration number ? Not sure I even can get one if I am not based in the UK

If you are a non UK based seller you must register as a business seller
That can be either a ltd company in uk or as a sole trader equivalent or company in your home country

Private sellers from EU or ROW cannot sign up to sell on Amazon UK

If you plan on doing FBA in UK you will also be required to register for UK VAT

You will not be able to continue with account registration until you have registered as a business

Just spotted this too
If you are buying from another retailer, when you do get up and running you’ll have to list these items as used as they do not have a valid trade only supply chain to be sold as new
