Request for Assistance: Variation Policy Warning
I am seeking guidance regarding a policy warning I received related to ASIN variations. I’ve already submitted two appeals to Amazon with detailed explanations and corrective actions, but they were both rejected. The response I received did not clarify the exact nature of the violation, making it challenging to address the root cause and submit an effective appeal.
Here is the warning email I received:
Subject: Policy Warning – ASIN Variation Violation
We have detected a policy violation that impacts your account health. If left unaddressed, it may lead to account deactivation.
Why did this happen?
You created one or more ASIN variations that violate our ASIN Creation policies. Selling partners may not:
• Change the product’s detail page (parent or child) to become fundamentally different from the original product listed.
• Change the parent product’s detail page so it does not match the children.
• Add incorrect child variations that are not true variations of the parent product.
• Add multi-pack variations that are not manufacturer-created to an already existing parent.
Here are examples of your listings that do not comply with this policy:
Parent ASIN: B0DMTX39VL
Removed ASIN:
Inconsistent Child Variation: B0D48BJNGQ, B0D48B1CZY, B0D46DM946, B0D486RCV7, B0D486N5JY, B0D488W1NR, B0D7TSL675, B0D7SY6LF2, B0D7TV9Y4W, B0D488M4R1, B0D468QK7N
I have reviewed Amazon’s ASIN Creation and Variation policies thoroughly, but I am still unclear on the following points:
1. Exact Policy Violation: The warning is ambiguous, and I do not understand which specific aspect of the ASIN creation or variation policy I violated.
2. How to Properly Address the Warning: I have taken corrective measures such as reviewing and adjusting variations, but I am unsure if these actions fully address the issue.
3. Next Steps: What additional evidence or information should I provide in the appeal to clarify my compliance and resolve this issue?
4. Should I create a new parent ASIN to unify all the Child ASINs that were unlinked from the parent ASIN eliminated for the warning?
The ambiguity in the warning has made it difficult for me to understand the main issue. I want to ensure I address this properly and avoid further impact on my account health.
If anyone in the community has faced a similar situation or has insights into how to navigate this issue effectively, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support and guidance!

Hello @Seller_q1RrLxDtV8nmK,
I appreciate you taking the time to reach out on the Forums. Thank you also for including the ASINs and Performance Notification. With this information, and help from an internal team, I have better ability to research your specific situation. Understanding Variation relationships can be confusing and difficult at times.
I see you chose to delete the Parent ASIN which did resolve the immediate issue. I have looked up your Parent ASIN and the Child ASINs. I believe the issue was too many variations in the relationship. The Parent ASIN (ELTRICOLOR Mexican Shot Glasses Set of 6 - Tequila Shot Glasses – Authentic Mexican Hand Blown Shot Glass - Tequileros Mexicanos – Tequila Glasses 2 Oz)
The Child ASINs were different colors and styles as well as sets of 4 or 6. This is too many differences in one relationship. If ALL the Child ASINs were a set of 6, this may have been correct. OR, if the differences were only color and set quantity, that could have worked. But you had color and style and set quantity. Some of your Child ASINs were round with a bird or flag inside the glass, and others were taller and beautifully decorated on the outside. Some of the Child ASINs were sets of 4 and some were sets of 6.
An example could be Shoes. Your Parent ASIN would be a specific Style (men's dress shoe with tassel) and the child ASIN's would be the same style but different size and color. Once you add a different style, (Men's dress shoe with two tone leather) this needs to be a new group.
Please review these: Variation relationships in part states:
Category level guidance
- Do not create variation relationships with products that function in different ways: It is important to ensure that the parent and child products within a variation family have the same product type, brand and title; and similar images. Products that are functionally different should be treated as different products.
- Example 1: A mobile phone charging cable and a portable charger, while they have a similar use (to charge a phone), are not considered the same product and should not be listed on the same detail page.
- Example 2: A laptop bag with handles and a laptop backpack are two different products, while they have a similar use (to carry a laptop), are not considered the same product and should not be listed on the same detail page.
Do not use variation themes incorrectly:
- Example of a variation theme: A color and size variation theme must not include any information other than color and size respectively. Different phone models, for example, should not be listed within a color theme.
Also review: Variation policy compliance and ASIN creation policy
I hope this information may explain, with a bit more detail what may have happened.
Thank you for reaching out on the Forums. The Forums and I are here to support you.
