Confused about generic items
Hi,
I have a ‘generic’ product I want to sell but I already see many other sellers selling an identical looking product. Pretty much all of them have a brand name in the title and under ‘brand’ (I checked most of the brand names to see if they have been registered on gov uk but some of them have not)
I also see other sellers listing under some of these even though it probably is not the same brand name. (there are no logos on these products either)
I do not plan to have a professional account anytime soon (even though this allows you to win the buy box). But I also do not want to get no sales… I can not see how I am supposed to get sales if I am not the buy box…If I lower the price then so will the buy box and I would much rather not go through this risk.
But since my product is generic (and I can not see any listings branded as generic (they all have brand names (registered and not registered) shouldn’t I just create my own listing? because technically my product is not the same “brand” as theirs.
Also since there seems to be so many sellers of pretty much every type of product on Amazon, how can you really know for sure if there are actually listings with under brand saying: ‘generic’ items for sale?
So for example: I browse through Amazon looking for a product to sell. I can see the same identical products but with brand names but can NOT find a listing with the name ‘generic’ (even though there probably is somewhere) and so I create my own listing with a new barcode. Can I still be penalised for not being able to find the ‘generic’ listing? They sure are not easy to find. Unless there is a way to search for ‘generic unbranded’ items on amazon?
Also am I allowed to just put my own non-registered brand name in the title and under brand for my products if it is a generic item? (apparently I can according to Seller Support)
Thank you for your help!

Yes, technically you should create your own brand. If there are already a lot of people selling this product, perhaps you should find something a little more unique.
