Whats the best way to create my own multipacks?
We are already selling single packs on Amazon of a product so of course are using the items EAN barcode for the singles.
I’m wanting to list some as multipacks as well with a bit of discount as it will have an appeal to more customers.
So from our end we would be packing 3 single packs to make up a new pack
Now question is what’s the best way to go around it (so we are listing both singles and 3 packs) as the EAN is already used for the single packs, so what will happen if I list a new SKU for the 3 packs change the qty per pack in seller central to 3 for the new sku - do I use the same EAN as the single pack (wouldn’t of thought so as that’s the unique identifer to the single) or do I go and create a new EAN for the SKU in GS1 (bearing in mind these are branded products)

You need to use the same EAN but change the pack quantity in the “More Details” to the quantity in the multipacks.
This way, if someone searches for your product using the EAN, they will still find it as singles or multipacks.
It’s very easy.

I thought the official way of doing multiples of a product is to add variations. That is what I was advised by CS/SS.
You keep the same GTIN, but the ASIN will be different for each variation. Pack of 2 , Pack of 3 etc, etc.
The main problem that I’ve come across is that you cannot add variations to an existing GTIN if they weren’t setup when the ASIN was created. This is because variations are setup as being children of a parent dummy ASIN. As an existing ASIN is not a dummy parent, it won’t accept any variations.
The lesson being, if you’ve got a product that you think might sell well in multi-packs, add those variations when your create the ASIN, even if you’re not prepared to sell them yet. That way you can always come back later and begin to do so.

As a general rule, if you’re creating a variation via a flat file upload then the simplest way is to create the ASINs as single listings in whatever method you prefer and then create the variation later, this also makes it easier to manage your variations (adding new items later for example)
You can take literally any ASIN that DOESN’T already have a parent and add it to a variation.
You can’t do this (as easily) if the ASIN already has a parent, but seller support will generally always orphan the ASIN for you if you request it for a legitimate reason (improving the variation is a good reason).
One of the forum mods posted a really nice guide on the forums about 6 months ago on how to do this without a flat file.

What to do though if say for example a competitor created the parent and variations for multi packs and for the same multipacks (colour/size) I’ve just been matching to theirs BUT I then want to add another mutlipack colour & size combination that they don’t currently offer. So basically I want it to appear under the same parent as the other variations.
