Buying instore from costco

Hello,

I wanted to source some toys from costco in-store but the brand i wanted needed to be ungated and requests an invoice. But in-store provides receipt without name and address.

Is it possible for me to still provide the receipt instead of an invoice?

Sorry I'm a new seller and still trying to learn.

Thank you

No. Costco is a retail store, it is not a distributor.

My suggestion: Do not invest any large amount of money. If Amazon requests an invoice for any of your products, and you have only a receipt, your account will likely be shut down. If you are planning on doing FBA, sending your stuff to an Amazon warehouse, they will keep your stock and money if this happens.

Hello @Seller_a2fXXhjIavNas,

Thank you for your question about sourcing products and providing invoices for ungating. It's great that you're seeking clarification as a new seller.

Regarding your specific situation:

  1. Invoice Requirements: Amazon typically requires proper invoices, not retail receipts, for brand ungating. This is to ensure products are sourced from authorized distributors or manufacturers.
  2. Retail Receipts: Unfortunately, retail receipts from stores like Costco generally don't meet Amazon's requirements for brand approval or ungating processes.
  3. Authorized Suppliers: Amazon looks for invoices from authorized suppliers or manufacturers to verify the authenticity of products.

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Consider Alternative Sourcing: Look for authorized wholesalers or distributors of the brand you're interested in. They can provide proper invoices.
  2. Contact the Brand: Reach out to the toy brand directly to inquire about becoming an authorized reseller.
  3. Explore Other Products: Consider starting with products or brands that don't require ungating while you build your seller history.
  4. Learn About Ungating: Familiarize yourself with Amazon's requirements for brand approval and ungating. This information is available in Seller Central. I recommend reviewing the help page: Categories and products that require approval.

For other new sellers:

  • Have you faced similar challenges with sourcing and ungating?
  • What strategies have you found successful in building your product catalog as a new seller?

Remember, while retail arbitrage (buying from retail stores to resell) can be tempting, it often poses challenges for brand approval and long-term scalability on Amazon.

As you're new to selling, don't hesitate to explore Amazon's learning resources in Seller Central or reach out to Seller Support for guidance on specific policies and procedures.
