FBA to France. Want UK Only

Hi all,
I sell mainly on FBA nowadays. I am in the UK
I thought I have opted out of any overseas sending as I do not want to get tied up with European VAT implications and the potential for things to go wrong.
However, I see I have received an FBA order to France which has been shipped and paid for.
Can anyone please let me know how I can ensure this doesn’t happen again and that my FBA orders go to the UK only. Will I need to now do anything with regards to French VAT etc? The order was for under £20.
Thank you
Craig

Was the order placed on the UK site or the FR site?

Hi NEil
Thank you for your reply.
As far as I can see the order has been placed on the French site Sunday evening
Tuesday Morning I exempted my listings from EU sales.
I also clearly remember exempting the listings a year or so ago as well!
I did not know an order had come in during the couple of days I was active

I am now worried about the implications of an EU sale as I am not registered for EU VAT or anything like that.

Am I likely to get in hot water over this?

Thank you
Craig

You need to register a charge method against each country to ship (or accidentally ship) to. See Accounts/Payment Information/Charge Method. We simply allocated the debit card we had against our UK account to those countries and then the disbursement triggered back to the account linked to that card.

We also disabled EFN it seemed way more trouble than it was worth and like the thread poster Craig1 I was concerned about the VAT implications.

What we did notice is that if we left ‘Allow Amazon to buy my products to sell globally’ activated then we actually sold 70% of the orders than used to go through EFN, the difference being that under that method Amazon effectively purchase the goods from you in the UK and then Amazon ship to the destination at their risk so you only have UK VAT implications.

My understanding is, wrong though I may well be. is that under EFN you can send any item under £135 VAT free to countries within the the EU - EFN covers Germany France Italy and Spain. However if your turnover to any country exceeds e10,000 then you have to register for VAT in that country (I think the limit is higher for France 12500?).

The ‘Allow Amazon to sell globally’ is different as the transaction is entirely UK based. Amazon buy it and then Amazon resell it to the customer. Amazon can buy as much as they want (millions?) and ship it to the EU country and your VAT exposure is UK only.

Possibly I am misunderstanding the EU rules on VAT, or perhaps Amazon has some clever work around in place. But I do know I was getting Invoices from Amazon France, Italy Spain, etc detailing my monthly sales and I assume at some point those invoices would be reported to the tax authorities.

Like I say, I could be wrong, I hope I’m wrong. But I turned off EFN anyway
