Compulsory Tracked Postage

I realise this is an Amazon seller forum but those of you who sell on a well known auction site will have received the same email as I have informing that as from 4th of March you are required to upload tracking info meaning you now have to use a tracked shipping service. I’m not sure if “tracked” includes signed for. This has made me wonder how long it will be before Amazon follow suit.

Needless to say this will be another nail in the coffin for sales as the only options are to either cease selling on these platforms or increase prices to cover the additional shipping charge and on low value items the probability of people not buying in my opinion is very high.

If you are referring to the passage bellow they are not stating you must use a specific method of posting or even tracked at all just without uploading before the due date you will not be protected

as 4 March 2019, you are required to upload tracking in the structured data field before the estimated delivery date has passed. This is so that we can protect you if a buyer claims they haven’t received the item. Sending the tracking number to the buyer via email won’t protect you from a claim.

We also ship low cost items and it’s not worth adding tracking due to cost. I hope that as with Amazon, although it’s advised - metrics aren’t affected if tracking is not provided. Perhaps they should specify for items over a certain value.

@GP_Fanshop Is the the same for Large Letters sent by regular Royal Mail?

They are not making shipping tracked mandatory.

The policy update simply means that you will lose any “Item Not Received” case if you failed to upload tracking details by the Estimated Delivery Date of each order.

This will basically copy Amazon’s existing policy requiring sellers to upload tracking at dispatch, otherwise any INR claim gets automatically granted with a full refund to the buyer.

If you use their Shutl service for purchasing postage labels then I believe it automatically adds this information to the purchase history.

For example, we use Royal Mail and the 2D barcode is automatically uploaded. This will show if a parcel is delivered, but not a letter :frowning:

The email you refer to wasn’t saying all orders have to be tracked.

What it was trying to say was that IF you have tracking, you have to upload it at the time of dispatch, or BEFORE the end of the estimated delivery period, IE BEFORE IT ARRIVES.

If you don’t, then they won’t accept a tracking number from you later as proof of delivery. They’re just covering their backs to make sure people don’t use fake tracking numbers to avoid INR claims.

If you create tracking and upload it at the time of shipping, you have nothing to worry about and nothing to change.

Hope this helps!

Tracking is the only way to cut out false claims of non receipt of which i have had many! since i have been using tracked item services i dont get anymore. of these claims.
Beware royal mail signed for service because the posties just stick them through the door and ignore the fact you have paid extra for peace of mind and a record of receipt via a signature.

If a royal mail courier doesnt gain a receipt complain on their website quoting the bar code number.

They usually send a book of stamps as an apology and give the relevant postie a bollocking

As someone who sells on both sites - in fairness mostly here as the other is not a safe place to trade imho - the fact you are dding tracking should mean you are protected - sadly on either you are not… it is down to who deals with on the day and the increase in dishonest dropshippers and buyers is a nightmare… you should look at raising the value of what you sell to be able to track where it is… but there are huge issues with the weakest link - the delivery people so at least try annd protect your business. Personally I am happt to add tracking and change what I sell - IF it covers me from the dishonest contingent…
