Addiing a UPC to an existing listing and the response I got.
So our company did not have UPC's when we began selling on Amazon back in 2018. We now have UPC's for all of our items. I want to be able to add the UPC's to my existing listings however that field is locked. It isn't a big deal for FBM items, however, I would like to avoid having to apply Amazon UPC's over my bar codes when I send items into FBA.
I reached out to help to ask if there was a way to add my UPC's to my listings. BTW...My listings are the only ones for my items on Amazon. We control all distribution so no one else can sell on Amazon. The response chain is as follows and I believe illustrates how the help team could respect our time better.
Day 1: I reach out asking if I can add a UPC to an existing item
Day 1: Help team replies asking me for a list of the items I would like to add a UPC to. (I was impressed how fast they got back to me, and a little excited that there may be a way to do it).
Day 2: I send them the list of ASIN's I would like to add a UPC to AS PER THEIR REQUEST.
Day 2: The reply asking me for a list of the items and the UPC's I would like to add to the listings. Note: At this time it is clear that these are EXISTING ASIN's because the list I sent them had the ASIN on it.
Day 3: I spend 3 hours creating a list with the Amazon SKU, the Amazon ASIN, the UPC, and the Amazon Description for all of the items I would like to add a UPC to the listing.
Day 3: Help team replies that I cannot add a UPC to an existing listing. The only thing I can do is delete my existing listings (and all of the reviews, sales history, etc.....) and re-create the items with the UPC's.
Now my rant. Why in the name of all that is Holy could they not tell me this on day 1 when I originally asked the question. Why did they come back to me not once, but TWICE asking for list of these items before telling me what I originally asked could not be done? Do they not know that you cannot add a UPC to an existing item or did looking at my list that I spent 3 hours building jostled their memory and made the answer clear?
Seems unbelievably disrespectful of my time.

Also, go back and look at my history. I have always been positive in my participation on this forum. This is so disappointing.

I'm sorry for the difficulties that this has created on your behalf. I've reviewed the case and I suspect the issue was that the agent was misinformed on the policy or didn't understand exactly the nature of your question. I am sorry that they did not understand that what you were requesting was not possible. I will be taking this case to leadership for internal review so please know that I do take this frustration seriously. Please let me know if you have any other questions on this or the UPC policies. I'm happy to address them if possible.
