Addressee Identification Reference Number Royal Mail
Sorry if this has been asked before guys, but we’ve just noticed a new requirement on mail going into the EU from Royal Mail, now it’s required to have the “Addressee Identification Reference Number” otherwise customs of the receiving country will likely refuse to accept the mail?!.
Royal Mail have literally ZERO information on what this is, but a quick google and it’s similar to our equivalent of a NI number (I think). Just wondering, anyone else heard of this or had any experience of it, I’ve already asked the customer to provide the details but I doubt it’ll be something they will be forthcoming with.
Cheers

I did manage to dig up a little more info and it would appear it’s not actually a requirement on most countries, at the moment it appears it’s only a handful but there is very little information on which countries are making it mandatory, and more importantly WHY?!. I’ve only seen info on Russia (yeh, I know) and Brazil making is mandatory but as Royal Mail are now including this on their C&D it would appear it may become required by more countries.
