buy shipping question

I am returning to selling on Amazon after a long time and I am astounded at the difference between how much shipping is supposed to cost (according to Amazon) and how much it actually does cost when I go to the post office. The solution seems to be "buy shipping," but there's something missing from all the articles and videos on this topic ... what do I do with the package once it's all labeled and ready to go? Am I still just taking it to the post office or using a UPS drop box on the corner (those have always seemed sketchy to me). The videos seemed to imply that there was a better option ...

You can drop it off at the post office or UPS, or you can schedule the post office or UPS to pick up from you.

Personally, I prefer taking it to the post office and watching them scan it so that I have proper proof that I sent the package on time. A lot of people use drop boxes or have USPS or UPS pick it up, but I always feel like that is a little less reliable. It is up to you.

Regarding shipping costs: that's just the way it is now. Recent hike in Media Mail. Buying shipping through Amazon will not save any money with Media Mail. You do save with most other services. However, the Amazon price will be the same as PirateShip, Stamps, etc.

There are other incentives to using Amazon Buy-Shipping, but price really isn't a reason. When you do not see the service you want to use offered on Amazon, just use PirateShip or other.
