Who pays return postage (and how to provide prepaid label)

A customer has asked to return 3 packs of Christmas cards because ‘Performance or quality not adequate’. I can’t remember the last time I had to accept a return and think I just refunded without asking for a return as it would cost more in postage than the item cost. Who is responsible for postage both outward and return with this reason? The buyer has happily bought packs of cards from me before on 2 separate occasions - they are exactly the same quality so I don’t know if it’s really a change of mind but they think they’ll get postage refunded with a different reason.
If I do have to / want to get an item returned how can I provide a postage paid label - I’m not getting the option just an unpaid one. I use RM OBA if that makes a difference.
Many thanks in advance

Why would you want to offer to provide a pre paid return label?
This is a change of mind return
Just send an unpaid label and your job is done until the cards are actually returned.
And by sending the return label you tick the box for Amazon in case an A-Z claim is raised.

The original postage costs are your responsibility though and if the cards are returned you will have to refund those as well as the item cost.

As Adrian has said, authorise the Return, provide them with a return label, where they pay the postage back to you. AUTHORISE IN THE RETURNS SECTION

They have not said defective, so it is a change of mind. Which is at the Buyers cost.

Otherwise, this is why Buyers expect Sellers to pay for their change of mind and no one then makes any profit.

I assume there has to be a massive profit on cards otherwise to offer such???

If you have a Royal Mail Account, you can ask about Royal Mail Tracked 48 returns labels, where you pay if they are used and ok for parcels up to 2Kg.

Cost will vary on average weight, but lets say £2 to £6 to you most likely. If you use though, I’d suggest to make it clear the cost is deducted if the item is unwanted and not a defective item. As you have to manually raise them, check if used when received back, etc, many charge extra as a handling fee. Amazon I think charge £3.99 for thiers up to 2Kg. Others charge £5.99 for a 1Kg and £9.99 for a 2Kg, as you really need average weight under 1Kg to keep the label cost down.

==

If you sell SFP, then Amazon email the Buyer a RM Tracked 48 label for items up to 2Kg, and then you can deduct the cost if item is not defective.

==

You can email the Buyer to ask the issue, but many do not reply.
