Brand Registry Application Case Closed
I submitted a Brand Registry Application (Case ID 15491773501). I realized after submission that I have a proper manufacturer's contract to upload (as opposed to just a single invoice showing the purchase of a small number of products). So I naively thought I could close the old case and submit a new one so that I can upload a full manufacturer's contract.
This has not proven possible because eventhough the first case (i.e. first submission) is closed, it still shows that the application is Pending Review. An attempt to start a new application gives me the error message that there is already an existing application to enroll my brand in Brand Registry.
When I looked online after the fact, I realized that this is a common error (and there are frightening stories of people who cannot get this mistake reversed, even after spending thousands getting their trademark registered).

I have now received an email from the Brand Registry team saying that I can appeal the denied application, eventhough the application was not even reviewed, let alone denied.
A new case has been opened (via chat, Case ID 15492897261) to see if they can properly close the old application and so I can reopen a new one.
