Fees for selling used book

I don’t recommend selling on Amazon at all. The fee structure is madness and customer service verges on non existent. I have been charged 70% of revenue in fee’s on a £5 sale of a used book! Amazon after 8 attempts responded to say that the charges are due to the following:

Amazon fees
Commission: -£0.76
Base amount
Tax: -£0.15
Fixed closing fee: -£0.75
Base amount
Tax: -£0.15
Shipping holdback: -£0.43
Base amount
Tax: -£0.09
Variable closing fee: -£1.00
Base amount
Tax.: -£0.20

The total amounts to -£3.53.

Personally that is shocking and I think you’d be better selling on eBay where the pricing structure is clearer and they have customer service that actually works.

I have been selling on amazon for 5 years! At no time have I ever had fees that are 70%.

Was that £5 plus £2.80 postage, so £7.80 in total?

If so, that sounds about right if you do not pay the monthly £30 subscription.

And then you have to pay to post it, so you’ve probably made a loss.

Try abe books for selling books on, much cheaper and more sales for me.

As someone who sells mainly books on Amazon I disagree entirely, you obviously need to take Amazon’s fees into account to ensure a sale is worthwhile
I rarely bother with anything under 15 pounds
Amazon sales outweigh ebay by around 10 to 1 you list free of charge and see to get better prices most of the time.
Customer service is poor and many rules unfair/arbitrary but the market place is just to large to go elsewhere
