How to Claim VAT Invoice from Amazon?

We are being charged 12% referral fees.

However, if you see that we are being charged amazon fees of 12% on total amount ( Including VAT).

Total Amount x 12% = Amazon Fees

£224.86 ( Including VAT ) X 12% = -£26.98 ( Including VAT)

i have talked to Amazon Helpline representatives and they say that we should not be charged VAT.
My simple question is that why we are being charged amazon fees with VAT?

if you are taking VAT amount from us then give us VAT Invoice so we can claim back from HMRC.

You can find vat invoices under reports>tax documents library.

Have you provided Amazon with your vat number?

Amazon should also email you those invoices 2-3 working days after the month end

To avoid the VAT being charged supply your VAT number to Amazon. You’ll still need to account for it using reverse charge.

Is it not the case though that, for example, where the amazon fee is 12%, it ends up costing 14.4% of the net value, as amazon take 12% of the gross value.
It’s our understanding that since Amazon’s invoices come from Luxembourg they don’t detail any VAT that can be claimed back.

So an item we sell for £100 net, £120 including vat, Amazon will take 12% (of the gross amount of £120), which is £14.4.
Meaning your net return is 100-14.4 = 85.6.

Or is this not correct?

That is a million dollar question and I’m sure even VAT office don’t have an answer for it. If all UK sellers pay VAT on goods sold, then Amazon should be liable to pay VAT on the fees that they charge us as well.
