SKU changing questions

SKU changing questions

So when I started selling on Amazon like 10 years ago, I didn't use SKUs. Now I have 3,500 items and I HAVE to use SKUs. Here's the question:

I know to change a SKU, I have to delete the item and relist it (right?). Is it better to relist FIRST with the correct SKU and then delete the item with the incorrect SKU?

I "own" about 500 items. When I say own I mean I created the listing (title, descriptions, images, etc). Will deleting the item and then relisting retain my "ownership" or will it revert to others selling the same thing? Does that make sense? That's why I feel like relisting FIRST and then deleting the old would let me retain the rights to the item.

Thanks for posting your inquiry. So you can delete first, or you can change the quantity to zero first, then create a new listing with your specific SKU that you would like to use. Then, once your new SKU is created, you can delete the SKU created originally by Amazon for your original SKU.
