GTIN Exemption Request: Common Use Cases

We have previously discussed how to locate your GTIN Exemption documentation that is submitted in the Listings Lounge: Locating Your GTIN Exemption Documentation.
As a refresher, a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is an industry-standard product identifier used to create new product pages and offer listings on Amazon. If your product does not have a product ID, a.k.a. a GTIN, and you cannot retrieve one from the manufacturer, you might be eligible to request a GTIN exemption. The exemption means you will not have to associate a GTIN while creating your ASIN.
A follow up question came up which I wanted to share with the broader audience - what are the scenarios for when you can apply to get a GTIN Exemption?
These scenarios are:
- You want to sell products for which the brand, manufacturer, or publisher does not provide a GTIN. For example, private-label products or handmade products.
- You want to sell products for which you are the manufacturer, brand, or publisher and you do not have barcodes on your products. For example, private-label products or handmade products.
- You want to sell product parts that do not have a GTIN. For example, automotive parts or mobile accessories.
- You want to sell a bundled pack of more than one product. For example, a pack containing a leather belt and wallet or a pack of two shirts.
Please note: Products that already have GTINs are not eligible for a GTIN Exemption.
As a reminder, if the categories you are planning to list in are restricted, you will also need category-level approval in addition to a GTIN exemption to start listing products. If you do not have this approval already, go to Overview of Categories for more information on category-level approvals and apply accordingly. Please also review the GTIN requirements by category page to determine if a GTIN is required for a specific category and if exemptions are possible or not.
