Best way to organise physical location of items and Amz Listing or SKU?
I’m trying to get organised.
My idea was that each time I list an item, I give it an SKU like
" Box1 - 01 ", " Box1 - 02 ", " Box3 - 03 " and so on …
And then I put it in a Box with " Box1 " written on it.
And then when it is full, I can start on "Box2 - 01 " …
Ingenious hey ! Bet nobody has ever thought of that … !
Of course, things get taken out and not put back where they are supposed to be … or assigned a Box but never put in the box in the first place.
So I want to check what is supposed to be in the box, and put everything where it is supposed to be.
I can only bring up my SKU’s alphabetically, or by date.
I have tried doing a search of my inventory using the partial phrase " Box1 ", but it does not work.
You can sort by SKU, Date Created, Price, Product Name, Quantity, but none of those are going to work. Date, not, because if I created " Box1 - 01 " in January and it sold in June, I could re-used that SKU to ensure I don’t have half empty boxes.
Can I run a report ?
How do the big boys with massive inventories manage their stock so they can find it in their massive warehouses ?
Any ideas ?
THANKS GUYS !

We are FBM.
Something to consider is that SKUs identify the product. We use the EAN as the SKU. Also by using a common SKU on each channel if you list across other marketplaces in Europe then the stock for that product is controlled automatically on each country’s totals as stock is sold or added.
We list using our Magento website and download the stock onto Excel or Google Sheets and have a cell for the location of the stock.
Strangely enough for some of our stock the locatio actually is “Box 1, Box 2 etc” !! - so how about that !!!
I believe that once though you have allocated the SKU you can’t change it on the back end of Amazon - so have a think before you name them all so you can achieve what you need to.

So you put the stock in box 1 then list with sku Box11, box 12 etc (box 1 item 1, item 2) but keep the numbers in a format that a search by inventory will allow the system to display a logical list, I can do this by putting my sku in search title within inventory.
Not sure why you would take stock out, but not put it back?
The objective is to find stock quickly, without rummaging for an hour through stock, I use plastic crates with stock physically by A-Z in each crate then allocate an sku for the crate, so physically can locate the item with, or without the sku.
It does need some housekeeping in time as new stock may not fit in the box/crate so an overflow location is needed until stock can be slotted into it’s correct slot.
Think more about what you want to achieve, then how to achieve it, it may end up something different that you initially outlined?
