Am i being overcharged for Subscription fees?
I feel like I'm not calculating it right, but after factoring in exchange rate, splitting of the fees for merged accounts, etc, I can't see where...and this is recurring for a while now...
So, this month my bank was charged as follows:
4OCT2024AMZ AMAZON PAYMENTS WA 29.05X1.389328743
- $40.36
So, the way I see it, this leaves 39.99-29.05=10.94 (USD) which is taken out separately (and I know about the splitting, etc). But then for the second split, my Canadian statement shows:
2024-10-01 Released Service Fees --- Subscription Fee:
-$19.28
------------------------
Since I know $10.94 (USD) can't possibly convert to $19.28 (CAD), what am I missing?? Like I said, this is how it's been happening (within pennies of the above amounts), but I can't see why. My understanding is, these fees are not taxed, right??
Thanks for your thoughts.

They're taxed. Full HST if you're in an HST province. $39.99 usd + tax = then Canadian exchange on top.

yeah, if you don't sell over 40/50 Products a month you shouldn't pay for the subscription. I've been paying for it but I'm canceling it for next month because the supplies, inventory ect. I've been paying to sell on here, have not made a dollar to keep or to refund the money I've invested.

Hey @Seller_LTv2zrpA8Qcn1,
Thank you for sharing the details of your situation regarding the Amazon seller fees on your bank statement. Based on the information provided, it seems there are a few factors at play contributing to the charges you're seeing.
First, let's break down the $40.36 charge:
- $29.05 was the base Amazon seller fee charged in USD
- This was converted to your local currency using an exchange rate of 1.38, resulting in the $40.36 charge
The $19.28 remaining charge is likely attributable to taxes being applied to your Amazon seller subscription fee. As JPart2 mentioned, this is likely sales tax (HST or VAT equivalent) being charged on top of the $39.99 USD monthly subscription fee for Amazon seller accounts.
Amazon typically charges this subscription fee automatically in addition to other selling fees. The tax rate applied would be based on your location. For example, if you're in a province/state with a 13% sales tax, that would work out to around $19 in additional taxes on the $39.99 USD subscription fee.
So in summary, the $40.36 charge appears to be the base selling fee plus currency conversion, while the $19.28 is taxes on your monthly subscription fee.
However, the advice from Familytofamily to evaluate whether the subscription fee is worthwhile if you're not selling over 40-50 products per month is sound. If the revenues you're generating from Amazon sales aren't covering the subscription cost plus other seller fees, it may make sense to cancel the subscription temporarily until your sales ramp up.
I'd recommend going through your latest Amazon seller statement line-by-line to reconcile all the fees. If any other charges still seem unclear after that, I'd suggest reaching out directly to Amazon Seller Support for clarification on your specific fees.
Let me know if this breakdown helps explain what you're seeing on your statement, or if you have any other questions!
