Customer will not return goods
Hi, Amazon refunded a customer £597 because an order was late, (it was shipping from the UK to Ireland) now the goods have been delivered, so the customer has had the refund of £597 and has the goods. Now the customer will not answer our messages… Any suggestions? as Amazon will not do anything.

I assume you have concrete proof of delivery?
If yes, send a letter before action and add a note saying if not heard within 30 days you will proceed with the small claims court (can be done online).

If the customer is in Eire though you may struggle to sue them in the UK courts.

Good grief, that’s a big hit! I am among many who will not sell outside of the UK and International shipping is turned off (Covers Ireland) because of things like this.

Bear in mind that using a LBA and proceeding with legal action, is against Amazon T&C’s.
It could get you into trouble with them if it is reported.
Not saying whether that’s right or wrong, but it is the way it is currently.
Also, just because you go down that route, is no guarantee of getting your money back and could just prove to be a further expense. Not saying that you shouldn’t, just that it could end up costing you more. The initial cost is negligible, but if you need to enforce it, it gets a lot more expensive.
@Group9direct Excellent advice there. How to lose your account in one easy go!
Besides which, how on earth is buying something from Amazon getting the money back? It’s highly unlikely that they will turn around and say keep whatever it is with their own sale! Certainly at that value. And it’s spiteful and illegal to knowingly try to get something for free, it’s called stealing!

Maybe send a tracked letter including a label for the return postage and ask for it back first?

Since uk left EU; cost of international legal issues has rocketed. buyers know
amazon only care buyers flock to amazon to piss on sellors. they get fees either way bit long term Amzon do not seem to understand if sellors all bankrupt: who will be left selling? No sellors: No amazon

I dont know who seems idiot here.
we send goods to eu. buyer make claim without any backup proof.
How tricky is it to upload a small picture?
Amazon refund buyer in full> We lose goods+ postages., Buyer gets refund + free goods.
somewhere is an idiot for not doing same: otherwise how will amazon finally support sellors
also suing someone in IR is not so simple. I will look into such but for EU it is not easy
I had similar/same in UK few yrs ago. Amazon refund in full. So I issued online summons & cheq arrived incl cost & interest

The customer is probably not getting your messages, Amazons seller to buyer messaging system has to be the worst in the world. I don’t see why they can’t do something like they do with sellers and put a banner across the top saying you’ve received a message or something.
Most customers don’t even know where to look for messages if they’ve turned them off in the settings.
I have done that, and I still get waaaaay too much junk mail from Amazon, at this stage going through my inbox its Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Credit card bill… look at, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, mobile phone bill… look at, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete, Amazon…delete
I don’t even look at Amazon messages anymore, a quick check of my inbox shows 53 new mail, I haven’t checked it in about a week,37 of them are Amazon, you bought this, its been dispatched, its out for delivery, its been delivered, with the odd FBA related email, it drives me mad, I try not to delete any that look important, but even at that I missed a message from a seller a few months ago (that I only found when I went into my messages to look for something).
At the end of the day however it boils down to the fact that they are not in the UK and you are you need to provide a return address local to them or provide a paid for returns label. That’s before we get into the fact that you broke the contract when you delivered late, and yes I know it wasn’t your fault it was the courier, but YOU hired the courier, YOU set the delivery time, YOU set the dispatch time so the responsibility is on YOU to deliver on time. Even in the UK the customer is entitled to a refund the day after the EDD.
Your only way out of this is to send a returns label and pray they return it. If you want to stop this happening again choose a new courier that is more reliable with international orders, allow extra time on your deliveries, or stop posting internationally.
