Please explain how FBA returns work
So, a customer orders a book, then returns it as "unwanted". Amazon refunds me the fees, except for FBA fee, which is fine by me. However, it was determined that the item was "defective" upon return and I was charged a removal fee. Why? It wasn't defective when Amazon shipped it customer. Who made it defective? The customer? Shipping provider? Why I am paying for it? Anything I can do to dispute it? Or is it just they way it works? Sorry, too many questions!;)

Any way you want it to. Amazon does it all for you. You just tell Amazon rather you want the item returned to you, or the FBA center.
Now the defective is a win-win for the buyer. All they have to do is call customer service and say item damaged in transit, and a new one will be sent at your expense.
When items are returned, if the receiving Rep thinks it looks new, they simply place it back in your new inventory. So, if buyer damages the product, places it back in the box and seals it neatly, it just may be sent to someone else. The best part is, with that complaint, YOUR account takes a Hit, and with too many of those, you cannot sell the product.
You are better off having the item returned to you.
