Help with Parent & Child Listing & Locked Fields

Hello lovely people.

I was wondering if anyone might be able to assist. I've tried speaking to Amazon seller support she left me more confused.

I have a product (probiotics) which we manufacture ourselves. Sales were going well but I thought to bring the price down to be more competitive we will manufacture a smaller pack size. So I created a parent and child listing and things were going well.

I haven't touched the listing in 3/4 weeks. This week I created two further products which will be two more Childs for this same parent listing. When trying to add the Childs on the parent listing I keep getting an error message saying the manufacturers field isn't matching on the parent with one of the Childs.

I didn't realise this was such an important field. We are trading under a different name to our limited company so for one product I used our company name as the manufacturer and the other product I used the brand name.

The field however is locked so I am unable to correct it and it's an issue with one of the Childs already in the parent so I am unable to save any changes whatsoever on the parent listing.

Amazon support said I need to delete the listing, wait 24 hours and recreate it. However my Childs are currently selling on Amazon and I have stock in Amazon fulfilment centres. The support specialist did not know what would happen to my inventory if I delete my listing.

Ideally I'd like to not delete the listing. Does anyone know of any workarounds?

Also hypothetically if the name of a manufacturer changed (they rebranded) how does one go about updating the manufacturer name? They must delete all their listings and relist? surely that can't be right?

Anyway your help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks so much

i've heard it's a nightmare to change brands, when we brand registered we did just delete and start again and hold our collective breath:)

however brand and manufacturer are different things.

could you try uploading new child variations through an excel flat file ? might get round the 'locked box'

alternatively you can update existing listings in bulk using the excel file, in the excel file brand and manufacturer are different boxes so maybe you could update the manufacturer box on all the existing listings to match each other and try again

Hello @Seller_vpxaYBJYknyjG,

I am Spencer with Amazon.

Have you been able to add the child ASINs since you last posted this?

If not, you can share a case ID with me so I can check for you.

Regards, Spencer

The stock will become stranded for a short time then when you re-add the products, if you use the same SKU as they had when you deleted them, they'll be available for sale on the re-added listing.

You can contact seller support and ask them to unlock that attribute, but you'll be beating your head against a wall trying to get someone who will actually do that for you instead of getting the same response you've already received copy and pasted back to you.

Be aware, sometimes if you delete the listing and then try to relist, some parts of the info are locked, and you'll get an error preventing you from creating a listing, as it clashes with what's in the catalogue for that ASIN.
