VTR for Royal Mail parcels sent untracked?
Hi all,
Please help, and sorry if this has been asked before.
When selling small items we simply box them up and physically take them to the post office and send them off as small / large parcels as simple 1st or 2nd class post (not tracked, not signed for).
We are given a receipt of payment by the post office which obviously has no tracking details on there, nor a barcode or anything either, as we don’t send them tracked, just 1st or 2nd class standard post as already stated.
What are we meant to type in the VTR box when confirming a dispatch, as it asks for a tracking number, which we wouldn’t have?
Reading the VTR help menus it says type the number in form a barcode? But we don’t ever get given a receipt with a barcode on it?
So, what do we do please?
Many thanks in advance
Les

Unsure if it helps but had this from Amz recently:
On March 1, 2023, we updated our Valid tracking rate policy for Royal Mail stamps and franking.
Seller-fulfilled shipments are now exempt from VTR calculation only if stamps are purchased via Amazon Buy Shipping. This applies to shipments sent through untracked Royal Mail 1st and 2nd Class letter stamps and equivalents.

You need to set up your shipping preferences and then when you dispatch the item click buy shipping, if you do not have a RM account you pay amazon print the label and take to the post office, as you have purchased through amazon, they will count it towards your VTR even if untracked, as they know it has been sent.

Hi Les,
I was told by Seller Support last year, that I needed to buy Royal Mail postage online (Click & Drop) and the tracking number is on the label (above the VR code).
This seemed to work fine until yesterday when I got an email from Amazon telling me my ‘Valid Tracking Rate is below 95%’.
I’ve contacted Seller Support and will update you when I hear back.

And again, is this just me? How would amazon know what you were sending if you were just marking as Stamps/Franking!?

Having been pressganged into buying shipping as per the new VTR change from 1/4 im still unclear:
What happens re the £2.80 they allow per item (i sell books) if the postage is less do we retain the difference
How do they know the item has been delivered for basic 1st and 2nd class mail ie whats the point if there’s no tracking as there is no proof of delivery.
Im wasting paper and ink printing the labels off which is extra cost per annum?
My VTR is showing N/A at the moment are we saying it will now be monitored weekly?
Just trying to navigate my way through this metric storm any comments gratefully received

Apologies perhaps im not making myself very clear.
The postage is set by Amazon as a default for books - some items are less postage (not many) and most are a lot more. Say a book to be shipped is 1.79 and amazons allowance is 2.80 do they keep the difference ie 1.01? or is the allowance still 2.80 whatever the cost?
They actually do make you buy shipping from 1/4/23 but most items still have no proof of delivery so whats the point?
I have always printed off a label for shipping but now i have to produce a second label for the barcode using a second piece of paper - i know the address is on that but its too small and increases the risk of loss
thats the point - we have no choice but to buy shipping now as the VTR rate will decrease if we don’t and i just want to know how this is going to monitored from now on
thank u

Thank you all my prices are variable within the 2nd hand book marketplace so reducing book costs is not possible after the order is received - there is no postage standard - each book sale is different so we don’t actually know the cost until we weigh it and size it! Thats also another factor you need weighing scales and a measuring tape every time you get an order!

Nope we don’t - the price varies so much and the size and the dimensions - we only list books viable within Amazon’s allowance - we do not list books under £5 for example because we know the postage on 80% of the books we have is going to exceed the allowance and buy the time amazon takes a cut
