Somebody else's returns
Am a small-scale bookseller on Amazon. Recently have been getting a large number of clothes returns, addressed to a Chinese named seller via Hermes - often dropped outside my front door so I have no choice about accepting them. The street address/building name are correct but the street number given (828) does not exist. The Hermes drop shop won’t accept these items back.
I’m concerned that either 1/ a legitimate seller is not getting the items back and therefore in dispute with the buyers or 2/ there is some kind of fraud going on, where giving out a random address is part of the process. Right now the clothes seller would have no way of knowing that I am getting his/her stuff, but Hermes/Evri will have a record of where it is being dropped off, so I definitely don’t want my address getting toxic through a connection to some shady business.
Any similar experiences or advice?

I had a situation where I had purchased an item and needed to return it. It was a Chinese seller with a UK address. I checked the address online and it was up for rent.
I phoned the estate agent dealing with it and he said the house had been empty for a while and he had had reports of items being delivered there which were nothing to do with the owner. We believe that the Chinese seller needed to provide a UK address for returns and chose this random one.
Yours may be something different but it is a similar experience.
