Sending IOSS Orders Into Europe Using Royal Mail - Customers Still getting VAT and Duties charges
Sending Amazon IOSS orders into Europe using the Royal Mail and customers are complaining that they have duties charges to pay or alternatively they are just not paying them and we are receiving the orders back here.
The post office labels (click and drop service booked in on their web site) have IOSS detailed on the postage label and we are also adding our own sticker detailing that it is a VAT and Duties paid order with IOSS VAT Identification number, market place information (Amazon in this case), Order ID and our VAT number.
Anybody else experiencing this problem? We are going to have to stop selling into Europe if this gets any worse

Is it only happening in certain countries, or is it any EU country?
Do you have an EORI number?

So far (touch wood) I have not experienced this.
Is it all orders or just orders to certain countries?
Are you using the correct service codes as they all changed when IOSS was introduced?
Have you done the bit where you have added the Amazon IOSS number into C&D?

I would probably avoid putting your VAT number on the parcels - this can only confuse matters since your VAT number has nothing to do with the order. IOSS orders are using AMAZON’s VAT number and putting yours on could (but might not) be causing an issue.

yeah i had this issue the other day. all forms and numbers on as required… customer paid the duty/tax. i have 0 idea why. that was italy which i seem to have issues with all the time. i think the Italian postal system is very bad compared to the rest of Europe

IOSS is provided on the order. Scroll down the order page starts with IM******
By entering your VAT number on the customs document (CN22b) you maybe causing confusion.
Beware there are two versions of the CN22 floating around. You need the one with the barcode CN22b.

In our RM Click and Drop Business Account under Settings>Trading names, click on the Trading name and there is a field to enter the company or business EORI number. The explanatory note (marked ?) for the field says:
“EU Customs authorities require EORI numbers for all UK Exports. You will need to register with HMRC in order to obtain an EORI number, please refer to the UK Government website for registration details. Once you have obtained an EORI number, please provide it in this field.”
We don’t use Royal Mail for our overseas orders (DHL) but we too have seen a dramatic increase in Customs Charges in Germany from about 1/2% to over 30% and rising for items sent around end of October early November. Charges are a 6.00 euro fee plus 19% German VAT/MwSt of the declared value also referred to as “Zoll” on a green sticker. Customs data sent electronically by our Shipping solution software.
We were considering going back to using Royal Mail but not sure now.

I have just stopped shipping to EU …the hassle !
Hermes just took for ever to deliver and some parcels just ended up back with me without any notice!
Tried Parcelforce they then used DPD for onward delivery in the EU and DPD were asking the customer for duties.
I used the correct commodity codes etc Amazon IOSS code, EORI number i am sole trader, not vat reg FBM and prior to Brexit never had any issues at all.
Some parcels are getting through and some are not and i cannot find out why some are rejected as there is no consistency.
I had one EU customer ordered a repeat order within two days, one parcel arrived and one parcel was reject at customs, exact same paper work.
So closed my books to the EU before i get anymore AtoZ’s this will cost me ££££££££££’s on lost xmas sales.

Now into my 6th great year of total EU shipping boycott. Actually make more money these days, no claims, no returns, no dodgy Italian thefts, Irish can you send it again please, supporting French social security, VAT robbery and fees etc. etc. and by the look of this EU-tastic lot, we are well out of it.
