Changing Generic product listing to brand
Hi there,
How can I get selling again under my own brand. Hope someone can help.
I have been selling on Amazon for a few years with generic listings being GTIN exempt. I recently listed successfully in brand registry thinking my product listing could easily be changed from generic to my brand in the edit section for each product. This threw in all sorts of error messages and suppressed listings followed.
I contacted seller support and was advised that a change from generic to brand could only be done through a feed upload. So I deleted all my product listings as advised by brand registry support and tried to resubmit with a feed upload. It will have none of it and I’m now a month in with continuous emails, calls and ‘chats’ with seller support but no one seems to be able to help me. One person then went into my product listings and changed my catalogue category so I had to start all over again. It is going round in circles and I’m guided back to the same ‘how to …’ help pages - none of them making it clear. I am now prepared to just lose all customer reviews and original product listings to at least get back up and selling again.
Can I/should I:
- Delete all my original listings under generic once and for all to start a fresh?
- As I do not own EAN numbers will I then have to re-apply for GTIN exemption
Has anybody else been up against this situation and how did you resolve it.
Many many thanks,

Get a GS1 account to get your EAN’s then create your own listings, thats the only way.

I don’t think you are allowed to change the brand on a product, you have to create new listings, for which you will need to subscribe to GS1 which are the only barcodes Amazon will allow you to use.

I have just enrolled in brand registry.
You can’t change the brand on ‘generic’ listings. You need to create a new listing and delete the old one.
While you are creating the listing, check the box to indicate you don’t have an EAN / UPC and it will come up with the option to apply for GTIN exemption (you don’t need barcodes).
I did this and it was instant. I only needed to do it on the first listing I created create. After that I no longer need barcodes to list under my brand.
This is my experience anyway but it does say, during the registration process, that you can apply for GTIN exemption after enrolling so i think it’s the same for everyone.

Hello @Seller_wHeWzEQ40PxQo,
It has been some time, but how did it go in the end?
