Verification - Power of Attorney

Hi all,
I sell on Amazon as a sole trader. Non VAT registered.
I have received the following request from Amazon today:

Hello,

We are contacting you as we need some additional documents to continue with your account verification.

What happens if I do not send the required documents?
You have a total of 60 days from the day we first contacted you to provide all documentation or information requested to complete the verification. The time that Amazon takes in reviewing and validating the information or documentation provided will not be counted against the 60 days threshold you are given. Failure to provide this on time will lead to your disbursements being disallowed until verification has been completed.
If it has been more than 60 days since we first contacted you, your disbursements may have already been disallowed and will remain temporarily deactivated until the requested information or documentation has been provided and your account has been verified.

Why is this happening?
The HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) document you provided was not dated within one year.

What type of document do I need to provide?

  • One of the following documents issued by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC):
  • Class 2 National Insurance Contributions (NICs) Bill
  • Online VAT Certificate
  • Self-Assessment notice to complete a tax return
  • Letter confirming your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number
  • Self Assessment Statement
  • Short Tax Return.
  • Letter acknowledging business tax registration, addressed to the sole proprietor
  • Pay As You Earn and Self Assessment

If you are unable to provide any of these documents, you can request a Confirmation of Unique Taxpayer Reference letter by calling HMRC and asking for the “Self-Assessment Department”. The letter may take two weeks to arrive by mail.

Ensure that the document provided meets all the requirements and that the information in the document matches the information in your Seller Central account.

What are the document requirements?
It is important that the document is easy to read, and meets all the following criteria:

  1. Dated within the last 180 days.
  2. Confirms that the primary contact person is a legal representative of the company as well as their role or job title within the company.
  3. The document must be in one of our supported languages. The supported languages are English, Chinese, Dutch, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, French, Turkish, Polish, Portuguese, Japanese, Hindi, Tamil, Thai and Vietnamese. If the original document is not in a supported language, please provide a copy of both the original document and a certified translation.
  4. We do not accept screenshots.

======

I have a PDF copy of my HMRC statement that I can send as requested.
However, when I click the Identity tab the only thing I am being asked to provide is a Power of attorney.
Is this in addition to the HMRC statement and if that is the case where do I upload the HMRC statement? There is a submit for verification tab directly under identity information but this is ghosted and does not seem to be a clickable link

Thank you very much for any assistance here

they tend to only accept the HMRC letter reminding you that you need to file a tax return or, a UTR confirmation letter from HMRC - which you’ll need to phone for

Yes it is my name on the amazon account identity information. Not my store name.
This is the only notification I have received.
It is just when I tried to submit the HMRC statement PDF the only space I had any information missing was against power of attorney within my identity screen.

Thank you The_Little_Shop & JillyB1 for your replies.
After reading the posted thread I see it is the HMRC info they are wanting and not power of attorney.
It says I have 60 days before they will revoke my selling privileges so hopefully enough time to get the info they need.
I have gone paperless with my HMRC letters so my notice to complete self assessment for 2022/2023 is just an email. Not an official letter

After a 45 min wait in the telephone queue to HMRC they are going to send me the UTR confirmation letter. Advisor I spoke with said they had received several requests today and seemed very helpful.
Hopefully this will solve the verification requirements
The Amazon notification does say I can continue to sell/disburse funds for 60 days so I hope that is correct and all should be sorted before then

I received a similar request for verification documents this week. The email I got asked for an official letter saying I was the legal representative or owner of the business (I am a sole trader). The email then went on to say they wanted a letter from HMRC. Within my account where the documents were to be uploaded, it only mentioned wanting a Power of Attorney letter. Being very confused about what was required, a search of the forum suggested Amazon wanted both a letter of authorisation as Little Shop has indicated above AND an HMRC letter. As it’s only possible to upload one document, the suggestion was to put them both into one pdf and upload that. Amazon seemed satisfied and verification took less than 24 hours.

Hi all,
Good news. I didn’t go HMRC paperless until Dec 2022 and had received a tax statement in December, which was within the required time frame of Amazon and they have accepted the statement.

Bad news, they are now asking for a passport and utility bill.
I can supply both, but my original on file passport has expired. So should I edit my passport number and then upload the new one, or just upload the new passport?
Thank you
