Difficulty getting GS1 information from our distributor

Hello,

We have a physical store where we sell parts from a distributor. That distributor is part of a large company based in China where the parts are manufactured. We've got a letter from the distributor that says we can sell their parts on Amazon.

However, in order to get permission from Amazon to sell parts here that haven't already been listed before, we were told we need to apply with the following info:

  • d. GS1 UPC/EAN certificate. It generally consists of:
  • d.1 The name of the Company to which the prefix is licensed (licensed),
  • d.2 GS Company Prefix, Legal Entity Global Location Number (GLN)
  • etc...

We've asked our distributor multiple times, and finally they said that they won't provide the info. There are other companies selling their parts on Amazon, and those companies have never needed that info.

Is there something I'm overlooking? Firstly, I don't understand why the distributor wouldn't provide the info -- is it somehow a secret? Secondly, I don't understand how other people are able to list items without that info.

I'm leaving names out of this post, of course.

Thanks much.

Hello @Seller_8PXJ1SNgyW38t- I appreciate you starting this discussion here on the forums, and I do apologize that the distributor is not providing you with the requested information, especially if they have already provided you with a Letter of Authorization.

It is true that approvals to sell certain products, or within certain categories or sub-categories on Amazon, are needed, along with approvals from the brand whose merchandise is being sold, if applicable.

I can help share this background on the approvals process, but continuing to work with your connections to receive the needed information is likely the path forward here.

I hope this information helps, but let me know if I can help address any other questions on this here on the seller forums.

Best,

Danny
