I feel scammed by amazon

I have recently signed up for Amazon seller choosing an individual seller plan, later I randomly get charged £30 and after some research that is apparently because I chose a professional account, which I did not. Now to make matters worse, I find out my account is deactivated and that amazon are asking for a utility bill in my name to reactivate it, however I do not pay for any utility bills so that would be impossible for me. I try to contact them but they say they can only answer queries regarding my deactivated account, so I can’t even request a refund. I have never used this account to sell before and I feel like Amazon has just completely locked me out from being able to do anything about this. Does anybody know anything I can do here?

Just to explain - there are two types of seller ACCOUNT - known as the legal entity - Business - for selling or making items to sell for profit, and Individual ACCOUNT - ONLY for selling off your own personal second-hand items (eg. books, DVDs CDs etc).

Then there are two selling PLANS - Professional, where you pay £30 a month, and Individual where you do not pay a monthly fee, but pay an additional 90p per sale.

If you genuinely had signed up for the Individual PLAN, then they would not have charged you £30. I am guessing that when you signed up you clicked on the big orange 'Sign Up' button. If you read the small print, that automatically signs you up for the professional selling plan.

ALL new accounts are deactivated whilst they check and verify the info you have provided, both personal ID and business info. As for utility bill, they may accept a mobile phone bill.

If you plan to buy goods to sell on for profit then you MUST have a Business seller account, and be signed up with HMRC as self-employed (possibly sole-trader to start off with).

Being honest, if you don't pay bills and your worrying about £30 charge youre not quite ready to be a seller

I think this experience has saved yourself from a lot more hassle in the future, you should feel lucky you have discovered very early on how difficult it is to contact Amazon to iron out problems.

Use this experience to move onto a different platfrom, if you want to sell stuff for non-profit (stuff from your house), sell it on Ebay, it will be much easier and nicer experience

If you want to sell for profit, try to find a different platform than Amazon, they are an awful company and although there is potential to make money it is not easy and they suck your time away with all their bureaucracy and shockingly bad seller support.

You also essentially sell your soul to the ecommerce devil, you are helping them develop their stranglehold and monopoly over ecommerce which will only makes things worse for sellers and customers in long term. Sell elsewhere and help the economy
